The recent Joint CPS and Police National Hate Crime Conference was well attended, and energised key stakeholders tackling hate crime, many of whom hadn’t met in person since before the pandemic.

Each quarter, our network of hate crime coordinators from around the country meet to discuss how they are managing hate crime cases in their local areas, and their engagement with communities.

We play a vital role in ensuring justice is delivered for victims of hate crime. We build the strongest possible case against the defendant and ask the court to increase the sentence to reflect the seriousness of these crimes.

CPS staff from Mersey Cheshire have recently been delivering training alongside the Police and Liverpool Pride Foundation to the local community of Liverpool in preparation for the 2023 Eurovision celebrations. This project has been working to influence and instil confidence in local business owners and workers to report crime from the moment it happens and ensure staff can respond efficiently to support victims and witnesses.
