Podcast

We have published our first podcast on our channel, based on learning from a National Thematic Review into Sudden Unexpected Death in Infants (SUDI) and in the format of our One Minute Guides.

We would like to encourage partners to listen while taking a short desk break, being active and performing short exercises to prevent poor posture or strain.

The podcast is 4 minutes long, a short summary of learning and we hope to produce more in the future on a range of topics.

Something's Not Right

Somethings not right

The Home Office created a new campaign at the end of last year, called 'Something's Not Right'. The aim of this campaign to help secondary children in England who suffered a range of harms, such as sexual and physical abuse, during lockdown.

The website, hosted on Childline, included information on where to get help, information on what abuse is and a reassuring piece on 'what will happen if I tell someone?'.

Access the Something's Not Right site and resources.

Escalation Policy

The Coventry Safeguarding Children Board has an escalation policy for all partners to use in the event of a professional disagreement.

The policy is designed to be simple, clear and easy to follow, and resolve any problems at the lowest possible level.

Partners may wish to use the policy when:

  • a referral is not considered to meet the threshold for social care
  • disagreement over sharing of information or provision/services
  • disagreement over the outcome of an assessment

Revised Multi-Agency Referral Form (MARF) from 1 June 2021

Following feedback from Partnership practitioners/users, a revised MARF is being implemented from 1 June 2021.

Some of the key changes include:

  • overall streamlining and reduction in the size of the form
  • some fields are now mandatory to ensure information is captured e.g. the name of the person making referral and the agency they work for
  • referrers only need to contact MASH before sending the form if they feel the referral requires immediate attention
  • an amended section on consent, so it’s clear where consent has been sought and reasons why it may not have been obtained
  • case details section changed to Signs Of Safety, with updated information/guidance on what should be added in each field
  • removed Presenting Factors question due to feedback from users about uncertainty whether this applied to child/young person or other family members

Kooth Launch

Kooth.com is an anonymous digital counselling and support service for children and young people aged 11-25 and is now live in Coventry.

How does Kooth work?

Kooth is an early intervention, prevention, and treatment service, which provides early help for children and young people with mild, moderate and complex needs. The service operates 24/7, 365 days a year and is based on 5 core elements:

Early Intervention and Prevention

Kooth provides a secure, safe, accessible space, where all content is moderated to assure the protection of all people accessing the offer.

Outcome Informed, User Led

Kooth collaborates with children and young people to understand how the service can meet their needs.

Choice

Support for children and young people can be accessed through engaging with a British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) accredited counsellor through chat messages, as well as writing and responding to (pre-moderated) forum posts, writing and reading (pre-moderated) magazine articles, messaging the team, completing challenges on Kooth’s Interactive Hub, and writing a personal online journal. Children and young people can receive scheduled online counselling support where needed or can attend a drop-in counselling session. All counselling sessions are held on a 1:1 basis.

Autonomy

Anonymous at point of registration. Using goals based outcomes, and the premise of logging in for a scheduled or drop-in chat mean that children and young people are in control of their therapeutic journey

Flexibility

Every Kooth user is unique, some will visit once and read an article, another will use the service for two years and engage with other agencies with the support of Kooth; a person-centred approach is used for all children and young people.

Your Voice Matters

Your Voice Matters is a chance for students to get involved in a discussion around Safeguarding within the local area, through discussion groups held in schools between Partnership representatives and students.

This is a fantastic opportunity for Children and Young People to discuss what they understand about safeguarding and whether they have any concerns within their area. From these discussions we are able to discuss any findings with the responsible partners and help amend any issues that may be arising.
