Year 6 psycho-education sessions

During the Summer term, the Educational Psychology Team will be offering live, 45-minute, psycho-education sessions via MS Teams. The sessions will be for children in Year 6 and will focus on understanding anxiety, trauma, crisis, resilience and positive mental health.

We understand that children have had a range of experiences throughout the pandemic, and the aim of each session will be to deepen understanding of how this may affect them and the positive steps that they can take to support themselves and each other. The sessions will be engaging and interactive with questions and activities for pupils.

Teachers will also be provided with two lesson plans, which they can deliver before and after the ‘live’ session with the psychologist, ideally within the same week.

The cost of this training will be two hours of EP time. This includes preparation, direct delivery of the session and the lesson plans. If you would like further information or to book a date for your live session, email: BSCLimbrickWoodCentre@coventry.gov.uk. Sessions are available from w/c 29 June 2020 and will be booked on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Group supervision pilot

During the next few weeks, the Educational Psychology Team will be offering a course of group supervision sessions to teachers and pastoral support staff. The sessions will provide an opportunity for staff to share concerns that may have arisen as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and work together to problem solve and find solutions. The group will be facilitated by two Practitioner Psychologists and will be open to a total of six members of staff for three sessions during the remainder of this term; sessions will run on 1, 8 and 15 July, 1pm-2-30pm.

If the pilot scheme is judged to be useful by those involved, options for a wider roll out will be considered. If you, or a colleague would like to participate in the scheme, please email BSCLimbrickWoodCentre@coventry.gov.uk with your details. To be eligible to participate, participants must:

  • Have watched the narrated presentation for the age group that they support, available at Coventry recovery curriculum.
  • Be available to attend all three of the sessions, on the dates listed above.
  • Be willing to participate in a short evaluation of the project.

There will be no charge to participate in the pilot project and no EP hours will be used.

Summer Reading Challenge - book reviews

As we can’t see you in our libraries at the moment, Coventry Library Service are asking local children (with their parents/school’s permission) to share short book reviews with us online. These can be short videos, up to around one minute long, or pictures of children with their books and a review. This year’s theme is Silly Squad, so we’d especially love to hear about the books that have made children laugh and smile.

Reviews can be shared with us on Facebook or on Twitter using the hashtag #covsrc. You could also send them to Anne McFadden at anne.mcfadden@coventry.gov.uk and we can share them on our Summer Reading Challenge web pages.
