New LADO referral form

The LADO works on behalf of Coventry City Council and the Coventry Safeguarding Children Partnership to address, advise and manage allegations and concerns against staff, carers and volunteers by addressing matters of safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

The LADO is involved from the initial phase of the allegation through to the conclusion of the case and will:

  • be involved in the management and oversight of individual cases
  • provide advice and guidance to employers and voluntary organisations
  • liaise with the police and other agencies
  • monitor the progress of cases to ensure that they are dealt with quickly and fairly

There is a new LADO referral form.

Keeping Children Safe in Education (2019) states that allegations of abuse against staff should be referred to the headteacher, or to the Chair of Governors in the event that the allegation is about the headteacher. Coventry Safeguarding Children Partnership policy states that referrals to the LADO must be made within 24 hours of the initial allegation coming to a professional's attention.

For any support in making LADO referrals, or the referral process, please contact Elizabeth Kent.
