Guide to Contextual Safeguarding

Keeping Children Safe in Education (2019) states that, "Safeguarding incidents and/or behaviours can be associated with factors outside the school or college and/or can occur between children outside the school or college. All staff, but especially the designated safeguarding lead (and deputies) should be considering the context within which such incidents and/or behaviours occur."

This is called 'contextual safeguarding' and is becoming more and more of a priority in safeguarding our children. The Coventry Safeguarding Children Partnership have created a 'One Minute Guide' to contextual safeguarding and this can be downloaded here.

See also the Contextual Safeguarding Network for further information, training resources and advice.

Mental Health Awareness Training

We have had positive feedback from a school that has attended Mental Health Awareness Training through Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families. They are offering free mental health awareness training to mainstream secondary schools, secondary free schools, pupil referral units and sixth form colleges, if they have not already undertaken Mental Health First Aid training. For more details and to book a place, visit their website.
