2021 Consultation on Admissions Arrangements

Some schools in Coventry and some of our neighbouring authority schools have started a consultation period on their 2021 Admissions Policies. Details of these are available to view on the individual schools websites as well as the Coventry City Council website.

Schools who are currently in a consultation period are:

  • Whitley Academy: 18 October 2019 - 29 November 2019
  • Eden Girls School, Coventry: 18 November 2019 - 10 January 2020
  • Eden Girls School, Coventry 6th Form: 18 November 2019 - 10 January 2020

Community and Voluntary Controlled Primary Admissions Policy 2021 consultation

The Community and Voluntary Controlled Schools Admissions arrangements policy for 2021 entry is out for consultation between 27 November 2019 and 8 January 2020.

Coventry City Council is proposing to reduce the Published Admissions Number for 3 community primary schools starting in September 2021. These schools are:

  • Alderman's Green Primary - reduction from 90 to 60
  • Frederick Bird Primary - reduction from 120 to 90
  • Spon Gate Primary - reduction from 60 to 30

DfE Guidance on Character Education

The DfE Character Framework Guidance, November 2019 has been released.

The document is new non-statutory guidance to schools on character education and development for pupils.

It is intended for use by school leaders and teachers when considering the rationale for character education and some wider aspects of personal development, and the practicalities of provision and delivery.

STEM support training opportunities for schools: Chris Catto at Bishop Challoner

Full day session on STEM leadership training takes place on 22 January at Coventry University. For most schools the cost is £99 to attend.

Running science on a budget on 4 December 3.30pm-5pm at St Bartholomew's

Middle leadership training (the days aren't linear but modular so leaders could attend some of the days if they weren't available for all. They are particularly good for relatively inexperienced and aspiring subject leaders.)

The primary and secondary core programme will be free for one teacher from each school in Coventry to attend with the schools receiving a £100 bursary for the first person who attends. 

Computer Science Accelerator programme - this is a 40 hour funded CPD programme which is a blend of face to face and online CPD designed to train non computer science trained teachers to become fully accredited GCSE computer science teachers. There is a £220 bursary available for each day of face to face training which takes place, and accreditation takes place after passing a 30 minute online test.

National School Breakfast programme

From Spring 2020, a revised programme will be offered to up to 650 schools not already benefiting from the National Schools Breakfast programme, within key disadvantaged communities, including the Department for Education’s 12 opportunity areas.

Schools will be offered customised support according to their situation and needs, including start up grants and deliveries of healthy food to ensure every child who needs a breakfast receives one.

Democracy at Risk: Holocaust and Human Behaviour

The course Holocaust and Human Behaviour is targeted at Secondary teachers who are subject specialists in History, English and RE.  It is going to be held on the 14-15 January 2020 at Leicester University.
