Sad news

It is with sadness I have to inform you that the former Lord Mayor of Coventry, Cllr Gary Crookes has passed away suddenly.

I know Cllr Crookes was an active contributor to a number of our school governing bodies and has led many school local democracy visits at the Council House, he will be sadly missed.

Home Office #knifefree lesson plans - KS3 and 4

The #knifefree resource pack was originally launched in July 2018, and has been updated for June 2019. It includes:

  • Updated lesson for KS3 recognising and evaluating the risks of carrying a knife.
  • Updated lesson for KS4 challenging common misconceptions about knife crime and exploring how young people can choose to live knife free and achieve their potential.
  • A brand new extension lesson, adaptable for either KS3 or 4 students, which explores the impact of role models on decision making and helps students to develop strategies to manage peer influence and pressures to carry a knife.

The free resource is available for you to download.

Positive Youth Foundation - summer programming

We have a very time-limited opportunity to support schools with their summer activity ambitions. We are able to fund activities for young people in the following areas, which are for 8 - 18 year olds and offer some element of physical activity:

Tile Hill, Canley, Willenhall, Hillfields, Foleshill, Holbrooks, Radford, Longford, Stoke, Stoke Aldermoor

Schools can be really creative about how to support their current plans, for example a music group could be funded if there is time scheduled in every day for organised play/active activity.

Please contact Susie Murphy for further information - susie@positiveyouthfoundation.org.

Sports Leaders UK course

Cannon Park is excited and delighted to be hosting a Level 5 AfPE approved Sports Leaders UK course in 2019/20. The course is fantastic CPD for PE leads, HLTAs with responsibility for PE or sports coaches employed in schools. As the course will hopefully lead to sustainable improvements in your school, it is considered very good use of your PE and Sports Premium grant. The course and supply can be funded through your PESP budget and will be run by Steve Busby (Bed and NPQH). Further information is available for you to read.
