This edition lists some of the forthcoming national campaigns you could consider supporting along with local opportunities to get active in and outside of the workplace to promote to your employees.

Training Opportunities

Carer Support in the workplace

30 October 9.30am to 12.30pm

This workshop has been organised to help support organisations working towards the Thrive Workplace Wellbeing Commitment, which includes criteria on carers in the workplace

This session will be delivered by Taruna Chauhan of T Chauhan Consultancy. Taruna is a specialist in working with service providers within the care sector to improve and enhance patient/client experience. Gabrielle Borro, Joint Carers & Engagement Lead from Coventry City Council, will also cover what is available from the Council and Rowan Preston from Coventry Carers will have a stand with resources to take away.

Become a Dementia Friends Champion

Become a Dementia Friends Champion by attending a volunteer induction day and then learn how to deliver the session yourself. 

You will learn about dementia and how it affects people, and the practical actions that Dementia Friends can take that could help someone with dementia living in their community. During the day you will also get lots of information and resources to help you understand how to answer people's questions about dementia and the sources of further information and support you can direct them to.

Thrive Awards

Thrive at Work is a workplace commitment with criteria and guidelines on creating a workplace that promotes employee health and well-being, focusing on key organisational enablers such as line manager support, attendance management, policies and procedures. In addition to health areas such as mental, musculoskeletal and physical health and promoting healthy lifestyles.

16 organisations have signed up to work towards the Thrive Awards in Coventry:

mind matters

NHS One You has launched new web pages with films and resources aimed at supporting individuals to become healthier, both in body and mind. View the One You For Your Mind Pages.

Further resources are available to support all public health campaigns through the PHE campaign resource centre you will need to register with them first. Displaying these type of resources will help you fulfil the Thrive criteria in developing awareness of lifestyles topics among employees and supporting health and wellbeing campaigns.

Work Support Service for employees with cancer

MacMillan Work Support Service offers information and guidance to people with cancer on work-related issues. If a member of your staff would like support, they can call 0800 808 0000 (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm).

One in three people are entitled to a free flu vaccination, yet every year thousands of people run the lottery of catching the potentially deadly illness rather than having the vaccine.

GPs and pharmacies are now offering the flu vaccination.

Police launch online chat service

West Midlands Police have launched a brand new live chat service on their website. Live chat gives you the power to report all non-emergency crime online and speak to an adviser any ​time between 8am to midnight seven days a week. Using the online service you can now:

  • Search for advice tailored to any situation you might be facing using the search bar 
  • Get help by talking to an adviser on live chat
  • Report non-emergency crime online 
  • Track the progress of your case.

You can also report burglary, theft, robbery and criminal damage.
