Help shape our next Corporate Plan
Our current Corporate Plan set out our vision, purpose, and values for the 2022-2025 period. It also set out our business model, strategic objectives and the key principles we would follow to help us achieve these.
We are now developing our new Corporate Plan, taking into account the changing landscape of health and social care.
Building on our successes and achievements over the last few years, we will set out strategic objectives and provide clarity on how we will deliver these and measure our performance.
We want everyone with an interest in care and in what we do, to have the opportunity to share their views about our strategic outcomes and help shape our new Corporate Plan.
Celebrating individuality through person-centered approaches
Glencairn Care Home in Edinburgh has been celebrating individuality through person-centred approaches. The home has introduced Artificial Intelligence (AI), Namaste care and other tools such as staff matching documents and the digital pain tool, Painchek.
The home used staff profiles and staff matching tools to develop wellbeing companions to replace a key worker system. From this, relationships have flourished developing more trust between staff and residents. Through person-centred care planning, staff have identified residents' interests, strengths and wishes and now residents are far more engaged. Wellbeing companions have supported some residents to achieve their dreams. Staff have also noticed a reduction in stress and distress with some residents coming out of their bedrooms more, some spending more time outdoors, and spending time with others, becoming less isolated.
Olive, a resident in the home said: "I have had the best day of my life in years. It really is marvellous all of the work you are doing in here. It has honestly given me a sense of purpose again."
Initially staff were hesitant, however after seeing some immediate results, particularly through using Painchek and the Namaste approach, staff have been more motivated to take part in activities and overall, morale has improved.
Emily, team leader said: “It has been so rewarding seeing the residents engage, in particular residents having conversations where they wouldn't have had before."
Some other benefits have shown improved outcomes for residents living with stress and distress and encouraged independence. The home has also seen a reduction in pain and anti-psychotic medication throughout using Painchek.
Jozi, care home manager said: "I can't begin to explain how fulfilling and empowering this change of practice and essentially change of culture has been for us. To see a reduction in medications is rewarding alone, but to see the improvement in residents’ wellbeing has been remarkable."
Your role in the Care Inspectorate’s Digital Transformation
We are excited to announce the next phase in our Stage 2 Digital Transformation, aimed at modernising our regulatory systems to enhance scrutiny and improvement activities. This transformation will impact both care services and those receiving care across the country.
To ensure this is a user-led transformation, we need your input. We are seeking feedback from people who use our systems so that we can understand your needs, what works well, and what can be improved. Your involvement could range from participating in design discussions to testing the new system.
If you're interested, please complete our short MS form. Our partners at Capgemini will contact you when needed. Completing the form does not commit you to anything, and we will understand if you have other priorities later.
We hope you will join us in building a world class system.
Self-evaluation workshops for the early learning and childcare sector
The Care Inspectorate and Education Scotland would like to invite practitioners to our upcoming in-person and online self-evaluation workshops. These events are aimed at managers, practitioners, staff and childminders who work in the childcare sector. The sessions will provide you with the opportunity to:
- learn about self-evaluation
- connect directly with inspectors from the Care Inspectorate and Education Scotland and take part in facilitated group discussions and activities
- share your experiences of self-evaluation and learn from other participants.
The in-person workshops will be held on Tuesday 27 May 2025 at the National Christian Outreach Centre, Riggs Road, Perth, PH1 1PR. The morning session will run from 10:00-12:30 and the afternoon session from 13:15-15:45. Both workshops will be covering the same content, which means you only need to register for one session.
If you are not able to come along to our in-person sessions, you can register for our online self-evaluation webinars for childcare services on Wednesday 28 May 2025.
