21 September 2025 until 31 October 2025
Post-tensioned bridges use high strength steel tendons embedded in the concrete structure. A special inspection is required to check on the condition of these steel tendons.
There will be contraflow works on the Chester inner ring road between 21 September and 31 October 2025.

Great Barrow water main installation
Severn Trent started work in 18 August at the junction of Lampits Lane, progressing along Long Looms/ Barrow Lane towards Milton Brook. This section is expected to be completed by mid-October 2025, and will be carried out under a rolling road closure.
A second team is working from Hollowmoor Heath, working towards Heath Lane, with completion expected by Friday 3 September. This section will also be managed under a rolling road closure.

Sutton Weaver Swing Bridge
In preparation for works on the Sutton Weaver Swing Bridge there will be a lane restriction overnight, for around one week later this month, to allow works to be carried out on the barrier.
Avanti West Coast’s Superfare ticket extended to Chester
Avanti West Coast’s Superfare ticket offers low-cost journeys to and from London.
The new fare costing £21 for a single journey, is available on direct Avanti West Coast trains between the two cities, it can be purchased for travel from 7 September 2025.
The ticket enables customers to book a journey for a specific date at a cheaper fare with the choice of a morning, afternoon, or evening slot.

itravel on-demand rural bus service covers a wide area including Helsby, Frodsham, Delamere and Acton Bridge, as well as some other villages, where no commercial services are available.

 Travelling in to Chester for work or leisure? Park and Ride operates from Upton, Boughton Heath and Wrexham Road. Free parking, with discounts for groups now available. Buses operate three separate circular routes direct into the city, then back to your car park.

Get around for £3 until 2027
Single bus fares to be capped at £3 until March 2027, ensuring services remain affordable and supporting travel in rural areas and towns.
Cheshire West and Chester Council has worked with operators to encourage as many as possible to participate, although some services will not be eligible.
Journeys starting in Wales are not eligible for the scheme, however local concessions have been introduced by some operators.

Grid/gullies work programme
38,505 grids (gullies) have been cleaned over the past twelve month cleaning programme.
There is an online interactive map to see when the gullies were last drained or report a blocked gully.

Tarvin Sands water mains replacement
Until 9 September
Following multiple water main bursts, United Utilities are replacing approximately 1,094 metres of pipe from Tarvin Sands Fishery, to Pool Lane.
Traffic management will be in place during the works.
Highways maintenance
The Council manages around 1,419 miles of road in the borough, enough to take you from Chester to Rome.
The Council uses preventative treatments on roads where possible, these are products and methods that help extend the life of the road, and get the greatest life from the road before more costly structural maintenance is needed.
