September is back to school time for many children and can sometimes bring a lot of complicated feelings.
The Cheshire BookTrust team have put together a fantastic selection of children's books that can help with building relationships and wellbeing. Here are a few of their favourites and why they love them…

|
Ways to say I love you by Madeleine Cook and Fiona Lee.
“This wonderful book is a fabulous way to look at relationships. It starts by investigating all the ways the child is loved by their family (full of diverse family units) and finishes with questioning that same child about how they’ll love those they meet at school (featuring children with hearing aids, ear defenders and wheelchairs.) A must read for all.”

The Rabbit Listened by Cori Doerrfeld
“This quite incredible but understated book delivers a powerful message with the relatable metaphor of a tumbling tower of blocks. When we are struggling with our emotions, we don’t need to be told how to feel, what we need is a calm and reliable presence that is simply willing to listen so we can process. Great for building empathy and learning to support others.”

Meesha makes friends by Tom Percival
“In another brilliant instalment from the Big Bright Feelings series we meet Meesha who is struggling to read social cues and make friends. Until an encounter at a party shows her that by sharing her wonderful talents she can navigate the difficult social situations and make friends too and still be herself.”

|
How to mend a friend by Karl Newson and Clara Anganuzzi
“A beautiful book about all the different ways you can be a friend, the most important of course is ‘just being you’. It is light and relatable, and focuses on the fact that there is no single right way to connect with people because everyone is different.”
