The festive season is fast approaching and we’re getting ready for plenty of winter warmer activities in our libraries. Read on to find out what’s happening near you, opening times over the Christmas period, and what to look forward to in January…

Below are our opening times for the Christmas and New Year period.
No items will be due for return while a library is closed, and our online resources are available 24/7.
Saturday 23 December: all libraries open usual hours
Sunday 24 December: all libraries closed, apart from Chester Library at Storyhouse
Monday 25 December: all libraries closed
Tuesday 26 December: all libraries closed, apart from Chester Library at Storyhouse
Wednesday 27 December: Chester, Ellesmere Port, Frodsham, Neston, Northwich, Sandiway, Upton and Winsford libraries open usual hours
Thursday 28 December: Chester, Ellesmere Port, Frodsham, Neston, Northwich, Sandiway, Upton and Winsford libraries open usual hours
Friday 29 December: Chester, Ellesmere Port, Frodsham, Neston, Northwich, Sandiway, Upton and Winsford libraries open usual hours
Saturday 30 December: Chester, Ellesmere Port, Frodsham, Neston, Northwich, Sandiway, Upton and Winsford libraries open usual hours
Sunday 31 December: all libraries closed, apart from Chester Library at Storyhouse
Monday 1 January 2024: all libraries closed
Tuesday 2 January 2024: all libraries open usual hours
Our mobile, school and community libraries will be operating as below:

Mobile Library: will not undertake any routes week beginning 25 December through to 1 January.
Hoole Library: closing 4pm Thursday 21 December, re-opening Tuesday 2 January
Malpas Library: closing 5pm Thursday 21 December, re-opening Tuesday 9 January
Tarporley Library: closing 7pm Thursday 21 December, re-opening Thursday 4 January

This winter visit your local library for a warm and friendly welcome.
During opening times libraries are part of the Council’s Warm, Welcoming Spaces network, providing a space for you to stay warm and safe.
Some Warm Welcoming Spaces sites will be open all day and some for shorter periods. Details of opening times can be found on each library’s webpage.

Alongside our wide range of books, eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines, there are also refreshments and free access to WiFi as well as public computers and newspapers. Everyone is welcome to join in with library events and activities that are taking place.

 With the holidays approaching, now is the time to encourage children to discover the joy of reading or to build on good reading habits! Tackle the holiday reading ‘dip’ with the Winter Mini Challenge, a free, bitesize version of The Reading Agency’s Summer Reading Challenge. Join End of Life Partnership for a Christmas Crafting Memories Session at:
· Frodsham Library, Wednesday 6 December, 10am-12pm
· Northwich Library, Thursday 7 December, 2.30-4.30pm
Decorate a star or heart in memory of your loved one, to go on your Christmas tree. You don’t need to be good at crafts to take part, it’s more about the chance to chat and share memories.

This is a free drop-in session, no need to book just turn up on the day.

Once again, our libraries will be offering a wide range of free activities to help improve your mental and physical wellbeing, from Monday 22 to Sunday 28 January 2024.

New for 2024, our larger libraries will be holding health and wellbeing marketplaces, 10am-4pm at:

· Ellesmere Port Library—Wednesday 24 January
· Winsford Library—Friday 26 January

The Christmas Jigsaw Murders by Alexandra Benedict
On 1st of December, a renowned puzzle setter, loner and Christmas sceptic finds a hand-delivered present on her doorstep. Unwrapping it, she finds a jigsaw box with a question mark on the lid, and, inside, six jigsaw pieces. When fitted together, the pieces show part of a crime scene - blood-spattered black and white tiles and part of an outlined body.
Only by fitting all the pieces together will she be able to stop a killer – and finally lay her past to rest.
