June is National Crime Reading Month, a time to celebrate all that we love about the world’s most popular genre. From cosy crime to psychological thriller to police procedural, there’s so many stories and iconic characters to discover. We’re marking the month with some criminally good events…
An Evening with Caroline Corcoran
Friday 16 June, 7pm, Helsby Library
Helsby Library welcomes crime author Caroline Corcoran, who will be talking about her latest book as well as her writing inspirations. Bar and refreshments will be available.

Murder Mystery: The Darkest Evening by Ann Cleeves
Thursday 29 June, 7pm, Northwich Library, temporarily at Weaver Hall Museum & Workhouse

We’re joining in with Eco Communities’ Great Big Green Week, working to help make Cheshire West and Chester a greener place to live and work. Why not write a Letter to Tomorrow to explain your hopes to future generations, or give some old household packaging a new creative life with one of our Bin to Brilliant craft sessions!

Libraries in Chester will once again be joining in with this year’s Chester Heritage Festival. The festival brings to life the city’s rich history and heritage and tells the stories that have accumulated over two millennia. Expect talks, crafts, LEGO building, family tree research and more!

This year’s theme is Compassion, so many of our libraries are hosting coffee mornings, to bring our communities together and to share stories. Please see our events page to see what’s happening in your local library.
Our libraries will also have displays of our wonderful “Stories of Sanctuary” collection. You can reserve titles online and there are also eBook and eAudiobook editions available via Borrowbox, to download.

The summer holidays are just around the corner and we’re getting ready for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge. Delivered in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust, this year’s theme is Ready, Set, Read, and it’s all about keeping children mentally and physically active over the holidays by reading 6 books of their choosing and collecting stickers along the way.
The Challenge begins on Saturday 8 July so watch this space for more information! It’s not just for kids either - we’ll also be launching Adults Read Two, our reading challenge for anyone over 13, so why not take part for your chance to win some book vouchers?
