World Mental Health Day
Like physical illness, mental illness can affect anybody. And just like a physical illness it is important to seek support if you have been suffering with any of the following:
- feelings of sadness and worthlessness
- feeling you have lost interest in those things you used to find pleasurable
- feelings of worry and panic
Anyone can experience challenges with their mental health, including children and young people. Everyday pressures including family life, school and social media can impact your child’s mental health.
Help and advice on how to support your child or young person can be found by following the link below.
October is ADHD awareness month, as well as World Cerebral Palsy Day and Dyslexia Awareness Day.

Applications are now open for children starting primary school. If you are a parent, with a child born between 1st September 2021 and 31st August 2022, your child will be due to start primary school in September 2026. Parents are strongly advised to apply for three preferences.
Applications must be submitted to the child’s home local authority by:
- 15 January 2026 for pupils starting primary in September 2026.
Parents still need to apply even if the child has a brother or sister already at the school or the child is attending a nursery/preschool attached to the school. Some faith schools may also require parents and carers to submit a supplementary information form/confirmation of baptism. Further information about this will be available on the school’s website.
Parents should consider how their child will travel to school when making preferences. Parents can find out about school transport at Home-to-school travel support for reception to year 11
To apply online and for further information please go to Application process for starting school in September or call 0300 123 5012.
