Cheshire East Family Hubs hope you have had an enjoyable summer and are looking forward to the new academic year!
Spotlight on...
How to talk to your child about the first week at school.
For many parents, carers and children, September is an exciting time, but for those who are starting school for the first time or are moving to a new school it can be a daunting experience.
Trusting that your little one is ready for school might leave you feeling a little anxious, but rest assured this is completely normal! Of course, you'll want to know all about your child's day, however, many children find it hard to put into words what they have done when they're feeling tired or a little overwhelmed.
Why not try putting out some crafts when they get home and asking them to draw what they did today? It's also a good idea to have some stories ready which feature children starting school so that you can talk about their day at bedtime.
There are plenty of free resources available online to share with your child, and if you're looking for stories, your local library or Family Hub will have books which you can borrow.
Applications are now open for children starting primary school. If you are a parent, with a child born between 1st September 2021 and 31st August 2022, your child will be due to start primary school in September 2026. Parents are strongly advised to apply for three preferences.
Applications must be submitted to the child’s home local authority by:
- 15 January 2026 for pupils starting primary in September 2026.
Parents still need to apply even if the child has a brother or sister already at the school or the child is attending a nursery/preschool attached to the school. Some faith schools may also require parents and carers to submit a supplementary information form/confirmation of baptism. Further information about this will be available on the school’s website.
Parents should consider how their child will travel to school when making preferences. Parents can find out about school transport at Home-to-school travel support for reception to year 11
To apply online and for further information please go to Application process for starting school in September or call 0300 123 5012.
