Cheshire East Youth Support Service
Cheshire East Council Youth Support Service run a wide range of free activities and support groups for young people across the locality. In this month's Family Hub Newsletter, we place a spotlight on this fantastic service and share how you can help your young person get involved!

What is Cheshire East Youth Council?
Cheshire East Youth Council is made up of a group of young people who campaign on and create positive change for others. They work with decision makers and help them to make services and the support that children and young people receive better.
What do Cheshire East Youth Council campaign on?
The group campaigns on issues that are important to young people e.g. mental health, physical health, access to early help, support for LGBTQ+ community, period poverty, hate crime and discrimination. The group is driven by important issues not political parties.
What other opportunities are available to you?
Make new friends, Take Over Days during November Children’s Rights Month, opportunities to volunteer, activity days, leading conferences/events, work with decision makers and local politicians, run for election and become a Member of Youth Parliament, Make Your Mark, attend Youthforia and join the Children and Young People’s Trust Board.
Who can join Cheshire East Youth Council?
Anyone aged 11-19 (25 if you have SEND or are a Care Leaver) from Cheshire East.
When does the group meet?
Every Monday 6:00-8:00pm (online and face to face), plus activity days during the school holidays. Venues on alternate weeks are Crewe Lifestyle Centre and Macclesfield Youth Hub.

Youth Support Service Holiday Activity Fund
23rd and 27th Dec and 2nd and 3rd Jan
The holiday activities and food (HAF) programme provide healthy meals, enriching activities, and free childcare places to children from low-income families, benefiting their health, wellbeing and learning for young people aged 12-16 years.
Since 2022, the HAF programme has provided 10.7 million HAF days to children and young people in this country. The expansion of the programme year-on-year has meant a total of 5.4 million HAF days provided between Christmas 2022, Easter and summer 2023.
The programme aims to offer young people an opportunity to engage and take part in new activities and learn new skills such as water sports, rock climbing, bowling and escape room.

Cheshire East Family Hubs launches FREE online workshops for families!
Cheshire East Family Hubs is excited to announce the official launch of its recent partnership with the Solihull Approach; trusted NHS provider of online courses focused on children's emotional health and wellbeing. Through this collaboration, Cheshire East Family Hubs funds a multi-user license, enabling all residents within the council's area to access a comprehensive range of online courses on www.inourplace.co.uk at no cost.
Cheshire East Family Hubs recognises the importance of nurturing emotionally resilient and socially aware children within its community.
Key highlights of the Inourplace online courses include:

Understanding your child's emotional health and brain development: Parents will gain insights into the science behind their child's brain development, helping them make informed decisions that support healthy cognitive growth.

Reading your child's behaviours: These courses will provide parents with tools to interpret and respond effectively to their child's behaviours, fostering positive interactions and reducing stress for both parents and children.

Developing communication: Parents will learn strategies for open and effective communication that will strengthen the parent-child bond and promote emotional well-being.
Primary School Admissions 2025
Applications now open
Applications are now open for children starting primary school. If you are a parent, with a child born between 1st September 2020 and 31st August 2021, your child will be due to start primary school in September 2025. Parents are strongly advised to apply for three preferences.
Applications must be submitted to the child’s home local authority by:
- 15 January 2025 for pupils starting primary in September 2025.
Parents still need to apply even if the child has a brother or sister already at the school or the child is attending a nursery/preschool attached to the school. Some faith schools may also require parents and carers to submit a supplementary information form/confirmation of baptism. Further information about this will be available on the school’s website.
Parents should consider how their child will travel to school when making preferences. Parents can find out about school transport at Free and subsidised school transport (cheshireeast.gov.uk)

If your child has recently started school you may be feeling a little unsure of where to turn to for help and support. Even though your child is now attending school, Cheshire East Family Hubs are here to support you, as well as the 0-19 Contact Hub who provide:
- Health Visiting
- Infant Feeding – Cherubs
- School Nursing
- Family Nurse Partnership (FNP)
- Immunisation and screening
Healthy Start
If you’re more than 10 weeks pregnant or have a child under 4, you may be entitled to get help to buy healthy food and milk.
If you’re eligible, you’ll be sent a Healthy Start card with money on it that you can use in some UK shops. We’ll add your benefit onto this card every 4 weeks.
You can use your card to buy:
- plain liquid cow’s milk
- fresh, frozen, and tinned fruit and vegetables
- fresh, dried, and tinned pulses
- infant formula milk based on cow’s milk
You can also use your card to collect:
- Healthy Start vitamins – these support you during pregnancy and breastfeeding
- vitamin drops for babies and young children – these are suitable from birth to 4 years old
