Agent Seventeen John Brownlow
Behind the events you know are the killers you don't. When diplomacy fails, we're the ones who gear up. Officially we don't exist, but every government in the world uses our services. We've been saving the world, and your ass, for 100 years. Sixteen people have done this job before me. I am 17. The most feared assassin in the world. But to be the best you must beat the best. My next target is 16, just as one day 18 will hunt me down. It's a dog-eat-dog world and it gets lonely at the top. Nobody gets to stay for long. But while we're here, all that matters is that we win. Visceral, cinematic and insanely addictive, 17 will keep you on the edge of your seat and live long in the memory. Until 18 comes along.

Babel, or the Necessity of Violence R.F. Kuang
Oxford, 1836. The city of dreaming spires. It is the centre of all knowledge and progress in the world. And at its centre is Babel, the Royal Institute of Translation. The tower from which all the power of the Empire flows. Orphaned in Canton and brought to England by a mysterious guardian, Babel seemed like paradise to Robin Swift. Until it became a prison. But can a student stand against an empire?

Title Author
In Patel's book debut, 'I'm a Fan', the narrator uses the story of their experience in a seemingly unequal and unfaithful relationship as a prism through which to examine the complicated hold we have on one another. With a clear and unforgiving eye, she dissects the behaviour of all involved, herself included, and makes startling connections between the power struggles in human relationships and those of the wider world.

Venomous Lumpsucker Ned Beauman
The near future. With tens of thousands of species dying out every year, our last hope is the biobanks, impregnable vaults where their remnants can be preserved forever. Until one day an audacious cyberattack obliterates every single one. In the aftermath, a troubled conservationist and a crooked mining exec must team up in search of the venomous lumpsucker, a lost fish that they both desperately need to save. Together, they pursue it through the weird landscapes of the 2030s - a nature reserve full of toxic waste; a floating city on the Baltic Sea; the dangerous hinterlands of a totalitarian state. And the further they go, the deeper they're drawn into the mystery of the attack on the biobanks. Who was behind it? And why would anyone do such a thing?

Everything you need to know about holds: how to reserve a book
When you're looking for a specific book, it can be disappointing when it's not on the shelf at your local library. Not to worry - our easy-to-use holds system has you covered.
- When you place a hold on a book, if we have a copy on the shelf at another of our libraries, we'll send it over to your local library for you to collect.
- If all of our copies are on loan, you will join a queue and when it's your turn, we'll send a copy over to your local library for you to collect.
- You'll receive an e-mail when your hold is ready to collect, and you have 13 days after the hold arrives to collect it.
- Holds are free for children, and a small charge is made for adults.
- You can place up to 20 holds on your library account.
- You can place holds online - all you need is your library card number and password.
- Alternatively, our friendly staff are always happy to place holds for you.
