The works to construct the access road and bridge as part of the wider Chelmer Waterside project are continuing. During these works you will see contractors from GRAHAM delivering the works on behalf of Chelmsford City Council. |
|
During the past month the team have completed the following:
- Removal and dismantling of the existing Bailey bridge which has been safely stored.
- Removal of the existing bridge supports and foundations.
- Piling platforms have been installed to provide essential support for the new bridge structure.
- Installation of a protection slab to protect utilities.
- Conducted unexploded bomb surveys (UXO) to ensure nothing has been laid undetected.
|
|
Over the next few weeks you will start to notice some changes in the area as the team continues with the construction. This includes:
- Piling for the foundations will take place along the river edges.
- Creation of foundations for the new bridge structure will take place on both the north and south sides of the river. This will involve piling and pouring concrete at the same time to create the foundation.
- Works will shut down on 20th December for the Christmas period and will continue from the 4th January 2024.

Chelmsford City Council, along with our partners Arcadis, GRAHAM and Cadent, will be hosting an open day on Wednesday 31st January 2024 at the Essex Record Office to give you a chance to meet the team and answer questions about the scheme.
Further information will follow in the New Year.
