Some new evidence is now available regarding climate change effects to stratification and mixing of the water column around the UK and Ireland, which is collated in the latest Rolling Evidence Update led by Dr Jonathan Sharples, from University of Liverpool.
This update reinforces previous evidence of earlier onset and strengthening of seasonal stratification in UK shelf seas, while trends in coastal regions remain unclear due to the influence of variable freshwater inputs.
