Do you know what the National Referral Mechanism is, who should use it and when to make a referral?
The National Referral Mechanism(NRM) is a framework for identifying victims of human trafficking and ensuring they receive appropriate protection and support. It is also the mechanism through which the Government collects data about victims. The information helps build a clearer picture of human trafficking in the UK.
Unseen UK have developed a handing diagram guide to the National Referral Mechanism showing the vital role they play in identifying potential victims of modern slavery & supporting survivors. Visit their websitefor more information about the NRM process, a step by step guide, the role of First Responders and how to make a referral.

Let's Talk Loneliness - safeguarding issue?
Marmalade Trustis a charity that raises awareness of loneliness and helps people to make connections. Their vision is to create a society where anyone can talk freely and openly about loneliness. Research has found that when someone is lonely, they can take more risks and make different decisions to those they would usually make, meaning they could be more at risk of abuse.
It is important that people can speak about feeling lonely, are aware of initiatives to tackle feelings of loneliness and know how to get support should they need it. You can visit their website where you will find more information, toolkit's and guides to loneliness here.
Helping Ukrainian refugees stay safe in the UK
There are concerns about the potential exploitation of refugees arriving in the UK. A new website has been developed to support Ukrainian refugees in the UK to support them to navigate life in the OK and keep themselves safe from possible exploitation. The website provides information in 3 languages; Ukrainian, Russian and English. Visit the websitefor further information which is is a "one-stop shop" of useful websites, helplines, and other information – anything from where to get basic travel and housing advice to opening a bank account and understanding your rights as a worker.
Says Andrew Wallis, CEO of anti-slavery charity Unseen, one of the groups behind the initiative: "There are millions of Ukrainian people on the move, many of them with no support network, who are vulnerable to all sorts of exploitation. We are already receiving calls from Ukrainian refugees to our Modern Slavery & Exploitation Helpline. And we are also getting worrying signals from other organisations in Europe regarding the trafficking of displaced Ukrainian people.
"The more information we can give them on how to stay safe in the UK and where to go for support for an entire range of issues, the better. It will stop exploitation."
The website also includes links to the Government's information for displaced Ukrainians.
Carers Week 6th - 12th Jun 2022
What is Carers Week?
It's an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support. The campaign is brought to life by thousands of individuals and organisations who come together to provide support for carers, run activities, highlight the vital role carers play in our communities and draw attention to just how important caring is.
