Mental Health Street Triage Pilot
Police Officers and Mental Health Nurses in Cumbria have teamed up to proactively support people in mental health crisis.
The Street Triage Team, a partnership between Cumbria Police and Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Trust, aims to improve their response to mental health emergencies and support individuals in crisis.
The model has been used in other areas but is a first for Cumbria. Following the success of the pilot in Carlisle this is now being rolled out across other locations in Cumbria. The pilot in Carlisle has had a positive impact on those requiring mental health support;
"Anyone can fall into a moment of crisis. If someone can actively intervene with you right there and then when you need it, without you even realising that's what you need, I think it's going to be invaluable and it'll hopefully start to reduce the stigma around mental health so therefore more people go seek help as well without the fear of being sectioned."
