Signs of Safety Online Core Training - Partner update

SOS

On 31st March we released our Signs of Safety Core Training online through My Learning and the training is available to all Partners. The core training is an online version of the Signs of Safety 2-day training and covers all aspects of the practice approach, with the additional practice elements outlined in Cumbria’s practice bottom lines. Since this time, we have had over 100 staff and partners access the training and the feedback has been very positive.

“Using solution focused questions will support my practice by helping others to take control of a situation and give them something positive to focus on, they can use their strengths to help them”.

“I have learnt that scaling questions are very helpful for getting new information about any situation or subject. We need to be 100% sure that all goals are met to ensure children are safe”.

“I think it gives parents and children more opportunity to explain and understand their own life story, including their worries and their strengths”.

The benefits of this upon my practice will be to use solution focused questions to guide families into identifying their own strengths and overcoming their issues with effective changes that will positively impact how they see their lives”.

“This training has given me a real insight into how Signs of Safety works and it has also given me a better overview of how social workers use Signs of Safety when formulating their plans”

“I learned a great deal from working with the case study and formulating the danger statements and safety goals and how these can be worded better for others to understand”.

“It is empowering families and truly creating a team around the family, it is inclusive of everyone whether it be family, friends, professionals or the pet dog. It leaves families feeling positive, strong, capable and not afraid to ask for help”

Delivered solely online through narrated presentations and reflective activities, this will allow participants to access the training and move at their own pace whilst testing out what they have learned by directly applying this learning in their own practice after each session. As outlined in the training, Signs of Safety not only applies to Child Protection, but can be applied in any setting. Where you have an assessed need, and a desired outcome, Signs of Safety offers a strength based, solution focused way to work with children and families to support them in reaching their goals and achieving their aspirations.

To gain your Signs of Safety Core Training certificate you need to complete all elements of the course, however for those of you who just wish to refresh your knowledge or focus on one particular area of practice, you can simply access that specific session.

Prior to completing the course sessions, please take some time to read the Signs of Safety Workbook and the Signs of Safety Course Material Book stored on the course page. This will give you a background to Signs of Safety and gives some background to the training.
