Signs of Safety Core Training release date 31 March 2021

SOS

Signs of Safety is our approach to social work practice with children and families in Cumbria. The methodology supports our vision that the best place for children and young people to grow up is within their families and networks where they have the potential to care for them safely, and when this is not possible, to provide a secure and stable home and help them achieve their full potential

To support this vision, Cumbria Children and Young People's Services, endorsed by the CSCP, use Signs of Safety as our approach to practice. This Core Training programme will introduce this risk-organised, strengths-based approach to working with children and families. You will explore the key principles of working in this way, and how it is applied in practice.

Course Aim:

To provide an overview of the principles, tools, and processes of Signs of Safety practice

Course Objectives:

You will explore and experience the application of the principles and tools of Signs of Safety using case examples, reflective activities and personal reflection.

Target Audience:

Professionals who work with children, young people and their families, and who undertake or contribute to the assessment, intervention and review of their safeguarding or wellbeing needs.

Instructions for the course

This is a blended learning programme includes all aspects of the Signs of Safety 2 day training, but with the additional practice elements outlined Cumbria’s practice bottom lines, meaning it covers every aspect of the Signs of the Safety practice approach. Delivered solely online through narrated presentations and reflective activities, this will allow participants to access the training and move at their own pace whilst testing out what have learned by directly applying the learning in your own practice after each session. To gain your Signs of Safety Core Training certificate you need to complete all elements of the course, however for those of you who just wish to refresh your knowledge or focus on one particular area of practice, you can simply access that specific session.

The core training will go live on 31st March 2021. Prior to completing the course sessions, please take some time to read the Signs of Safety Workbook and the Signs of Safety Course Material Book stored on the course page. This will give you a background to Signs of Safety and gives some background to the training.
