Early Years Attendance Survey – Please action today

We are collecting Early Years Attendance once per week on a Wednesday.

It is important that all providers complete this data return weekly as we are required to submit the information to the Department for Education.

Free online training to support young children's wellbeing

A free online course to support children’s mental health and wellbeing has been launched by the Open University. The eight-week course, which focuses on supporting the mental health and wellbeing of young children from birth to eight years, is aimed at adults who have an interest, professionally or personally, in the care and education of young children.

The sessions cover the following subjects:

  1. Setting the scene by looking at the past
  2. Increasing your knowledge of mental health
  3. Mental health promotion and education
  4. A global view of children’s mental health and wellbeing
  5. Wellbeing and mental health in education settings
  6. Professional support for children and their mental health
  7. Exploring some of the interventions to support children’s mental health
  8. The influence of screen time on young children’s mental health and wellbeing
  9. The free introductory course can be accessed here.

Safeguarding training - Levels 2 and 3

There have been several queries regarding accessing safeguarding training and what is available. 

This week an online blended learning course that has been developed for Safeguarding Responsibilities, Threshold Guidance & Referral Process - Level 2 has gone live.   You can access the instructions to enrol on this course here.  Practitioners can complete this course at home or in the workplace at a time that is suitable to the practitioner.  

Please note that if you are an agency outside of Cumbria County Council you will need to set up an account on My Learning if you have not done so already.  If you are already enrolled, please check that all your details are correct including, name, organisation and email address. 

Safeguarding & Child Protection Working Together to Safeguard Children Level 3

This course is now going to be delivered through Microsoft TEAMS.  There are dates on the website which you can access here.  You may have been on a waiting list to attend one of the level 3 courses. If this is the case, you will receive an email from the Learning and Development Team asking you to re book onto a preferred date.

Free online training to support EAL children - book now

Cumbria Development Education Centre (CDEC) are offering a free 1.5 hour online training session for nursery and Early years practitioners  called Growing a Place of Welcome on Tuesday 10th November 4pm – 5.30pm. It's aim is to support you to increase the school readiness of young children from non-English speaking families and develop community integration. If you are interested in joining this session please book as soon as possible.

Ofsted have issued a video of Yvette Stanley National Director, regulation and social care talking about the early years regulatory visits and registrations and plans for September to December 2020

Updated risk assessment - Closing of settings

As rates of Covid-19 continue to rise please be aware that settings should notify OFSTED if they have to close. Information regarding this can be found in the Updated checklist and Risk assessment
