Important: home to school transport provision update

Around 750 pupils in the county currently travel to school on a commercial public bus service. While a small number are entitled to free school transport, the majority pay fare to the bus operator.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions commercial public bus services can now carry fewer passengers.

On 21 commercial bus routes used by pupils travelling to school the county council has worked with operator to provide additional bus capacity to ensure all pupils will be able to get a seat. In some cases the additional capacity will only be for pupils, in others pupils will share the bus with members of the public (as they do normally).

These arrangements will initially be in place until half term.

The routes and schools affected are set out below. Also below is a link to a template letter which can be sent to parents and carers.

Information on affected routes

There will be a number of routes where extra vehicles will provide additional capacity. In most cases one bus will run exclusively for the carriage of school pupils or students and a second will run for other adult passengers
