Dear Colleagues,
By now I’m sure you will have read through the guidance released yesterday, not an insignificant task in itself.
Despite the volume, I think it is fair to say there are no real surprises in what has been published and in the main it is in line with what we have been predicting. However, there is of course significant thinking and planning required to prepare for September and not all of it will be straightforward. Given all schools’ situations are different, necessarily the bulk of that planning will fall on headteachers and we absolutely recognise that will be a challenge.
The September Education Planning group, which brings together the LA with system leaders from across the sectors, has initiated a number of key workstreams to support schools, including: summer activities; Human Resources – a consistent approach; attendance; transport; and health and safety. The workstreams will be working to review key issues and provide appropriate advice, guidance and support to schools and settings. We will be providing regular updates over the coming weeks.
As you know, Government guidance to schools has been updated with sometimes dizzying regularity and it would not be unreasonable to anticipate further changes and updates, but the direction of travel is now very clear.
We remain absolutely committed to supporting colleagues in all education settings to ensure we are all as well prepared as possible for pupils returning.
Thank you for your ongoing efforts, please try and enjoy the weekend, and we will be back in touch next week.
Yours
Dan Barton
