Ofsted response to the Written Statement of Action
This week we've received a response from Ofsted to our draft Written Statement of Action which we submitted in August. The WSoA is a plan which sets out how we will respond to the specific recommendations made in the inspection report. In advance of a planned longer update on how the improvement programme is progressing I wanted you to be aware of what Ofsted have told us.
In their response they said:
the actions in our plan link closely to the areas for improvement they identified during the inspection
the leadership and governance of the disability and special educational needs (SEN) reforms have been strengthened
the plan clearly reflects a strong intent to embrace the spirit of the SEN reforms.
However, they have also identified areas where further work is required to strengthen the plan. They said:
the outcomes in the plan are too broad and the plan lacks specific milestones against which the success of our actions can be judged.
the planned actions often do not go far enough to address some of the key weaknesses.
some of the timescales and intended outcomes do not reflect a sense of urgency.
We acknowledge the points raised by Ofsted and will now work with partners and parents/carers to strengthen the plan. A revised plan must be submitted to Ofsted by 8 October.
It is clear that the actions we have identified so far are right, but we need to go further and add more detail about them in our plan. We will do this, but we will also progress with delivering our planned improvement activity because this is urgent and we don’t want to slow down that work.
Our plan is the bedrock of the improvement programme and we are absolutely committed to getting it right.
