Safeguarding Fortnight

Cumbria Safeguarding Children Fortnight is taking place from 9th to 20th September 2019.

We will be holding a series of learning events, across the Cumbria, to highlight that safeguarding is not just being about child protection intervention, but also has a place in the wider community.

The fortnight will be used to share information and engage with practitioners about the new partnership arrangement for safeguarding children.

Thursday 12th September

Advanced Domestic Abuse Training

Workington

The course outlines the impact that domestic abuse has on victims and children, and assists learners to understand how to respond appropriately to their concerns.

DARAC Training (Domestic Abuse Risk Assessment for Children)

Workington

These learning events are multi-agency training sessions on the use of the Barnardo's DARAC (Domestic Abuse Risk Assessment for Children - formerly DVRIM).  The sessions will also cover in brief; Domestic Abuse and the impact on children.

Parental Mental Health Training

Whitehaven

This course aims to consider the impact that parental mental health problems can have on the development, safety and welfare of dependent children and on the parent's or carer's ability to meet the child's needs

Bruising in Babies & Childen who are not Independently Mobile Training

Penrith

The session will explore the research evidence and local cases which indicate the importance around recognition of the safeguarding implications for bruises on this vulnerable group. Delivered by the Designated Doctors for safeguarding children, Professor Jean Herbison, Consultant Paediatrician and Nicola Cleghorn, Designated  DoctorSafeguarding Chlidren, Cumbria CCG.

Learning from Practice, LSCB Conference 

Newton Rigg College, Penrith

Launch of the the RiP triennial review.

This conference will cover learning from national and local reviews, featuring key note speaker Dr Susannah Bowyer, Assistant Director, Research in Practice.

Evidence-informed approaches to learning in Multi-Agency Safeguarding, Including themes such as;

  • The reflective, curious practitioner-researcher
  • Barriers to professional curiosity
  • Language, terminology and the power of description

Tackling Child Exploitation in Cumbria, LSCB Conference 

Newton Rigg College, Penrith

The aim of this conference is to improve the recognition and response to child exploitation, including sexual and criminal, in Cumbria.

The conference will featuring national key note speakers from the NSPCC and Lucy Faithful Foundation alongside local experts.

Delivered by Action for Children, this is a valuable addition to our portfolio and provides those attending with an overarching understanding of the issues surrounding neglect, how it can impact on the children and young people to whom it relates and how early interventions can be used to reduce the impact of long term neglect.
