CAMHSTalk Podcast - Managing Christmas

CAMHSTALK

As the festive season approaches, this can often be a really challenging, difficult time for a lot of young people and adults for many reasons including loneliness, focus on food and eating, feeling overwhelmed, changes to routine......

CAMHSTalk have previously recorded 2 podcasts where young people and professionals discuss how to cope, managing emotions and giving guidance for families and loved ones.

Episode 19 – Eating Disorders – How to manage Christmas (and other festivities with food)

Episode 20 – Autism Spectrum Condition and anxiety- how to manage at Christmas

Getting help over the Christmas holidays

The festive period can be a difficult time for lots of people, so if you’re struggling, there are services that can support you during this time. If you would like to speak to someone about how you’re feeling, you can contact one of these helplines for support.

  • You can call Samaritans on 116 123. This is a free, 24/7 service.
  • If you’re aged 18 or under, you can get in touch with Childline on 0800 1111, open 24/7.
  • Papyrus have their Hopeline service which you can contact 9am – 12am. They have a phone, email and text service.
  • If you want to send a text, you can use Shout. Just text YM to 85258 for free to start a chat.
  • Kooth is a text based service available for all young people aged 11-20. They are online Monday - Fridays, midday - 10 pm and 6 pm - 10 pm Saturday - Sunday
  • NHS Crisis Line - Mental health crisis support is available 24/7 for all ages in Bedfordshire and Luton by contacting NHS 111 (Option 2)

If you or someone you know is at immediate risk of harm, or is not safe, call 999 or go to A&E. A mental health emergency should be taken just as seriously as a physical health one and you won’t be wasting anyone’s time.
