Have your say ... on how you would like to receive SEND information
Are you 14-25 years old and use our SEND local offer?
If you said YES, we need your help!
We want to hear from you about the SEND Local Offer and how you would like to receive the information we put out, as a young person living in Central Bedfordshire.
To have your say, simply complete our survey.
We want to know what you would like to see improved, to help us make things better for you.
The survey will be open until 30 November 2022 AND for everyone who completes the survey you will be entered into a prize draw to win a £15 Amazon Voucher.
New Community Paediatrics Service Referral Portal
The Referral Portal is an online system designed for professionals who refer into our Community Paediatrics service and will help to streamline the referral process for children and young people into our specialist community health services.
The Referral Portal is due to launch on 31 October for professionals in Luton & Bedfordshire.
The aim of this portal will be to enhance data security, and will enable referrals to be made to multiple services (in future) using one referral process and is part a programme to establish a single point of access for all CCS Children’s Services in Bedfordshire and Luton.
The portal will be the preferred referral route for professionals once it goes live. If you refer via SystmOne, please continue to do so and treat this message as information only.
Why are we bringing this new system in?
- Paper referrals and correspondence is associated with delays in receipt, high processing times including scanning and risks of delay or non-receipt of information.
- Benefits for our families including automation of sending the Diagnosis Support Pack by email once parent/carer email is provided.
- We will stop accepting referrals by email and post after 31 December 2022
Interim service specification for specialist gender dysphoria services for children and young people – public consultation
NHS England’s interim service specification for specialist gender dysphoria services for children and young people, has just published. This draft specification sets out the interim arrangements for moving the assessment, referral and treatment of young people with gender incongruence out of the Tavistock GIDS. It is open for public consultation until 4th December and you can contribute to the consultation by completing an online survey. The interim service is expected to be up and running within the next six months.
The new service specification introduces a number of important changes, which are summarised in the Consultation guide. There is an increased emphasis on sharing of responsibility with local services (including CAMHS), and a requirement for consultation and joint formulation with the new service provider prior to making a referral. The documents are concise and written in plain English. Further background may be found in the Cass Review interim report, which has been the primary driver for the changes
Autism in Females and Those Assigned Female at Birth
CAMHS latest podcast features a discussion about Mental Health in the media between Marianne, Quin, Molly and Kieran, a trainee Clinical Psychologist who was recently on placement with CAMHS.

Have your say ... Short Breaks Consultation
Don't forget to have a say ... We have launched a consultation to gain views on how we can better meet the needs of children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) through our existing funding approach for short break leisure activities.
This consultation was created in partnership with SNAP parent carer forum, as well as parents from Central Bedfordshire who have children with SEND.
Currently, there are six suppliers that we work with to provide short break leisure activities, and this consultation aims to find out if the current funding model enables organisations to meet the needs of children and young people with SEND in Central Bedfordshire, or if more variety is needed.
To read the full consultation document which has more details about this service, as well as how to have your say, visit: www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/consultations
Closing date: 10 November 2022
