The BLMK Keyworker Pilot Project

Autism Bedfordshire is the provider of the Keyworker Pilot across Central Bedfordshire, Bedford, and Luton. This project is in response to the NHS long-term plan for children and young people with learning disabilities, autism, or both, and are at risk of admission to hospital, to have a designated Keyworker.

The project takes a flexible, personalised and needs-based approach with the child/young person at the centre of all decision making.

Why is this important?

The services (education, health, and social care) that support children/young people, and their families can be complex, often lacking cohesion and effective communication. This can result in children and young people falling through gaps and not receiving the support they need.

What is a Keyworker’s role?

To ensure that children and young people, and their families, get the right support in a timely manner, and that all people involved in supporting the child/young person are responsive to meeting their needs.

Overarching Objectives:

  • Improve children and young people's experiences
  • Improve parents/carers and families' experiences
  • Improve access to assessment, care and support across education, health, social care and community services
  • Improve quality of care

Outcomes for children, young people and families:

  • Feeling listened to, informed, and involved
  • Inequalities in accessing support are reduced
  • Children and young people feel safe and happy
  • Children and young people feel involved in their plans, care and support
  • A reduction in stress and uncertainty
  • An increase in stability

Luton and Bedfordshire Community Eye Service

The Children’s Community Eye Service is provided by ophthalmologists, optometrists, and orthoptists who specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of eye conditions by medical and surgical means.

Orthoptists use non-surgical methods to diagnose and treat abnormalities of vision and co-ordination of eye movements in people of all ages.

Our school vision screening has now resumed in reception classes in Bedfordshire and Luton.  If you have any concerns over the sight of one of your pupils, get in touch with us today to talk about a referral.

We can be contacted via:
