Case numbers falling but we still need to be careful

Weekly figures 23 June 2021

Full infographic and breakdown of the weekly figures are available on our website

Cases of COVID-19 have gone down this week, albeit slowly and we still have case numbers similar to March. We are also seeing the number of people with COVID-19 needing hospital care going down but sadly there was one death here in the last reporting week.

Over the last week (week ending 23 June), cases have declined by 37 to 159 new cases (55.1 per 100,000) in Central Bedfordshire.

Among our neighbours, cases are also down in Bedford and Luton but slightly up in Milton Keynes.

  • Bedford - 173 new cases (99.8 per 100,000) with no deaths reported
  • Luton - 193 new cases (90.6 per 100,000) with one death reported
  • Milton Keynes - 188 new cases (69.8 cases per 100,000) and no deaths reported

While this is welcome news, case numbers are still rising across the country so if we are to see an end to the current restrictions as planned on 19 July we all need to play our part to reduce the spread and get back to normal.

Latest evidence is that the high case numbers are driven by more people meeting up indoors, especially in homes.

So it is even more important to remember:

  • Fresh air is best - meet others outdoors or open windows if you are inside
  • Hands - keep washing them regularly or use sanitiser
  • Face - wear a face covering
  • Space - keep two metres apart from others

We should all:

  • Test regularly - use a rapid test before you meet others
  • Isolate - if you have symptoms get a PCR test immediately and isolate
  • Vaccinate - vaccination is effective so get yours as soon as you can

Weekly reports

Vaccine - all the usual steps have been taken

Everyone over 18 can now be vaccinated

Vaccination is our best line of defence against COVID-19, to protect you and others around you. It's also the best way to end the restrictions and get back to normal.

Let's keep working together to stay safe.
