Community Planning

We’re planning for new homes, jobs, schools, transport, local services and amenities and we want to hear what the priorities are for your area.

We have grouped towns and parishes together into 15 community areas, and we have been running Community Planning drop-in sessions in each of these areas. Since October we have held eight Community Planning events across Central Bedfordshire and we are going ahead with our remaining events, as scheduled.

We want your input to consider how to plan for sustainable growth, local infrastructure (such as open spaces, education provision, transport links, health provision) and new homes. We also want your views on what unique characteristics or spaces need to be protected or could be enhanced.

The information and feedback from each event will be used to help us make decisions about planning applications and what conditions we might put in place around certain developments.

For instance, developers sometimes have a duty to give financial contributions which are used to help provide schools, roads and other infrastructure in the area where new homes are to be built. The Community Plan can be used to inform where that money could be best spent in the local area.

The feedback will inform our emerging Local Plan, but our vision is that Community Plans will have a use and longevity beyond this, with each event acting as the start of an ongoing dialogue with you and your local community about development and local needs.
