The recent Ofsted Physical Education ‘Levelling the Playing Field’ document identified the need for greater rigour in the leadership of Primary School PE.
For over a decade now, Cambridgeshire’s PE Advisory Service has delivered the Level 6 Primary PE Subject leadership award. This professionally recognised qualification helps develop a deeper understanding of teachers’ role as a physical education (PE) leader, and enhances the ability to design, lead and evaluate a targeted strategy for primary school PE. This qualification has been identified as best practice by DfE, and is regarded as a good use of the PE Premium funding. Details are here: PE Premium Funding

Microsoft is introducing changes to its Microsoft 365 Office suite which will set limits to the amount of storage across OneDrive, SharePoint (including Teams) and Exchange email. It is expected that this will not impact most schools, however, it does mean that you should review data storage to understand how much your school is using and work to delete or archive files no longer in use. From 1 February 2024, your students and staff may start to see warnings appear if they are near or over the new storage limit for Microsoft 365 for Education across OneDrive, SharePoint and Exchange email for schools.
From 1 August 2024, Microsoft will be enforcing the limit on how much storage can be used for storing your files and information and your school users will need to make sure they stay under their storage limit. What kind of Microsoft Licence is affected? All school tenants will receive 100TB of free pooled storage across OneDrive, SharePoint, and Exchange, with an additional 50GB-100GB of pooled storage per paid user for A3 and A5 subscriptions, respectively (not including Student Use Benefits). With pooled storage, a schools’ total storage limit is the maximum amount of storage all users combined can use. Users of Office 365 A1 (free subscription) will be limited to a maximum of 100GB for OneDrive storage, within the 100TB of pooled storage for the school tenant. Schools will have the option to purchase incremental storage based on their needs. You can download our summary Information Management & Guidance here.
The ICT Service is currently assessing the current storage usage for schools with Microsoft 365 tenancies that have support agreements with them*.
They will make direct contact with the schools that are assessed as most likely to be affected by the new limits, should the best practice advice above not be acted on. *If you are not subscribed to The ICT Service for your IT support, then please ensure you raise awareness of these changes with your IT provider so they can check 'business as usual' will not be affected for your school after the limits come into affect.
To talk to The ICT Service further about storage in Microsoft 365, or to ask questions please contact sales@theictservice.org.uk or call them on 0300 300 0000.

Some children & young people (CYP) with asthma find their airways are more sensitive to changes in temperature so in cold weather, their symptoms often get worse. However, it doesn’t have to be that way and it’s possible to be symptom-free – even in winter.
The following advice can help you keep your child well during the winter:
- Make sure that they take their preventer inhaler as prescribed – using a preventer inhaler as prescribed helps the airways become less sensitive.
- Keep their reliever inhaler with you or ensure they always carry their reliever inhaler with them in case they need it in an emergency.
- Check their inhaler technique – using their inhaler properly is important. Talk to your doctor or asthma nurse if you feel you need help with this.
- Wrapping up – keeping warm & wearing a scarf/snood over their nose and mouth to help warm up the air before your child breathes it in. Breathing through their nose will also help warm up the air before it reaches their lungs.

The Health and Safety Executive are currently inspecting schools in relation to their management of asbestos. These inspections commenced last year and, after an improvement notice, Cambridgeshire County Council provided all maintained schools with mandatory asbestos awareness training for free, and this was confirmed by the Director of Education in writing to schools.
This training is required under the Control of Asbestos Regulations (2012). Many schools took the opportunity to complete this training, however a small number are still outstanding and could be at risk if they have an HSE inspection, which may result in an improvement notice directly with the school, and comes with a monetary cost.
