The DfE’s Healthy Schools Rating Scheme is a self-assessment tool designed to help both Primary and Secondary schools improve the health & wellbeing of their pupils. Through completion of a survey which addresses Food Education, School Food Standards, Physical Education and Active Travel, schools will receive a rating – Gold, Silver or Bronze – which Ofsted inspectors may wish to consider when reaching the judgement of “personal development”. Access to the scheme can be obtained via the local Active Partnership, which co-ordinates this on behalf of Sport England as part of the Active Lives Programme. For more details contact David.welch@livingsport.co.uk
Participation in this scheme also supports the achievement of the standards for the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Healthy Schools Award, which recognises a whole school approach and commitment to Health Education. Secondary Schools across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough will have received the latest results from the Health-Related Behaviour survey in October. This survey, which provides invaluable insights into the health, behaviours, and attitudes of over 8000 pupils across the county, is a fantastic resource for schools to use to support them in developing action plans to address the needs of their pupils and we encourage you to use these in your planning. The Healthy Schools service is here to support you in developing this and link you up with local initiatives, services, and offers available to schools to help you address all domains covered in the survey. National Storytelling Week 2023
Wb January 30th
National Literacy Trust Resources:
The A4 resources have been created for families with children 7-11 or 11-14. They encourage families and children to explore their heritage, journeys and traditions together.
- The 7-11 resource is full of activities to help children tell the stories and experiences of the important people in their life. It encourages children to play the role of a news reporter.
- Meanwhile the 11-14 resource encourages children and young people to explore the world of podcasts, listen to recommendations, write their own podcast plan and interview someone special. They will work towards recording their own.
A ‘communities guide’ document for volunteers, practitioners or youth workers who want to organise storytelling activities in their local area is also available.
