SEND Ordinarily Available Provision Toolkit - can you help?

As you may be aware, Cambridgeshire County Council are in the process of creating a resource for schools called the SEND Ordinarily Available Provision Toolkit.  This web-based resource will provide useful information on the provision, strategies and interventions that can be put in place by the majority of schools to meet the needs of children with Special Educational Needs.  This is very much a Cambridgeshire resource, coproduced with SENCos from Cambridgeshire schools for Cambridgeshire Schools.

We are also creating a new Local Offer site that will replace the current one in Summer 2023, it will be called the SEND Information Hub. It will be much more colourful, interactive and user friendly than the current Local Offer.

On both these sites, we would love to include photos of Cambridgeshire children from across our schools and settings, but we need your help.

We are looking for high quality photographs of children in your school/setting that you have parental consent to share. If you could also provide email addresses for parent/carers and staff in pictures, we would be happy to explain how the pictures will be used and confirm consent to use the photo on our website.

Please email photos and contact info to sendtransformation@cambridgeshire.gov.uk

There's still time to go green for the Queen

Schools across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough can still take part in The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC).

Originally started to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, the scheme is to continue with its goal to create a lasting legacy by encouraging the UK-wide tree planting initiative.

The unique scheme involves inviting people to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee,” with everyone encouraged to plant trees from October.

Discover where your nearest planting project is taking place, and log any trees you plant here.

The Woodland Trust is an official project partner and can support your school or community project - See their website here.

Further information can be found at: The Queen's Canopy website  Cambridgeshire Country council website. Peterborough City Council website.

Arts Events for Families and Children at Libraries

The Library Presents a new season of theatre, music and art events across Cambridgeshire. There are lots of events for children and families in October half term and beyond! Of particular interest may be; ‘The Story Detectives’ which is an interactive literacy based dance event with `pay what you think' ticket pricing, ‘The Monkey King’ where Hindu stories are brought to life using puppetry, dance and music and ‘Selfish Giant and other Stories’ bringing stories from literature and comics together into an easy-to-follow laugh-and-wonder physical theatre show. View all events across the county suitable for children and families.

Concussion Awareness Training for Teachers (primary and secondary)

The issues around head injuries and concussion in sport are high profile at the moment. Anyone who teaches rugby in schools MUST complete the RFU mandatory 'Headcase' training.

This free, online resource addresses:-

  • what concussion is,
  • how it looks, and how it feels.
  • how you can prevent it;
  • best practice concussion management, and
  • why it is important that this is followed.

Although developed for rugby, the information can be applied to concussions occurring in any sport and non-sporting environment, including lunchtime supervision in Primary Schools.

The Headcase course is accessible here

Safer Recruitment Procedures - Updates

As you may know, the latest version of Keeping Children Safe in Education has introduced a requirement for online searches on shortlisted candidates. Advice on these, together with other safer recruitment and Single Central Record updates you may have missed from last year’s KCSIE will be provided at one of our forthcoming Safer Recruitment Procedures update sessions to be held via zoom on 14, 18 or 20 October. Each session will last around 45 minutes and can be booked via our course calendar (see the Leadership and Management of Safeguarding tab) at a cost of £25 for maintained schools or £35 for academies.

Peterborough Museum's education sessions receive excellent feedback from schools

Peterborough Museum education feedback

All schools attending sessions at Peterborough Museum & Art Gallery since lockdown have rated their experience as Excellent or Very Good. The award-winning programme offers immersive experiences with the museum’s collections at heart, as well as outreach for those unable to visit.

Schools all agreed that their learning objectives had been met, and gave hugely positive feedback, such as ‘Excellent activities, interactive, using skills of historical enquiry, good quality of primary and secondary sources and evidence, fun and varied, very knowledgeable teaching’ – teacher attending a Really Roman Day.

Get in touch with the museum to find out how they can support your work in the classroom.

Opportunity for teachers to access free resources

Peterborough museum free resources

Peterborough Museum & Art Gallery are recruiting teachers to help develop their schools resources; they want to know what will best support you and your students!

The museum and art gallery is asking for a small input of time over the next few months to consult/give advice on their museum school sessions and the expansion of existing digital resources to better support in-classroom learning. Teachers will be paid for their time and receive free access to the resources created for their school. Help them to inspire your pupils’ curiosity – and create cross-curricular opportunities.

Peterborough Children's University returns

Did you know children spend 91% of their waking hours outside school? Children's University celebrates learning done outside school, in clubs, activities, and visits. After a break during the pandemic, Peterborough Children’s University is up and running.

New research from Children's University shows it has a positive impact on personal development and school life. 80% of participating children believed their involvement helped them in their lessons and 72% believed it made school more fun and interesting.

Join, and you can raise aspirations, become part of a national community of learners, and show that learning is fun, inspiring and lifelong.
