Learn Together  |  Cambridgeshire County Council

Dear Reader,

You are probably relieved that you have received a lot less emails from me this half term.  This is positive sign that we have entered a period of decline in the pandemic.   Attendance is looking positive, and we are dealing with less Covid disruption to learning.  We are busy planning for the autumn term, and we will continue to provide advice and guidance for any re-emergence of Covid-19.

Thursday is National Thank a Teacher Day.   I want to thank Mr Miller who taught me business studies at secondary school.  As well as being a fantastic teacher, he made a real effort to support me when I missed a lot of the first term of A-levels due to illness.   Without him, I doubt I would have got where I am today.  Schools are about all staff though, so thank you teachers, teaching assistants, caretakers, cleaners, midday supervisors, business managers, administrative staff etc etc for all you do.  You make a difference every day and your impact lasts a lifetime.

On behalf of everyone at the Local Authority, I will end by wishing you a restful half term.  Enjoy the Jubilee celebrations and make sure you switch off for this period.

Northstowe Secondary College: Public consultation on change of age: message from Meridian Trust range

Meridian Trust proposes to extend the age range of Northstowe Secondary College (NSC) to 2-19 by opening a Primary and Nursery Wing (located the other side of the Martin Bacon School) forming the latest part of the development of the Northstowe Learning Community campus. We are sure many of you will be aware of the original vision laid out in 2007 for high quality, all-through, inclusive education at the heart of our local community and by making this change and opening the new primary school, potentially in 2024, we will take the final step in realising those plans.

Please visit the NSC website for more details, to view the consultation presentation, and to give your views.  Age Range Consultation – Northstowe Secondary College (northstowesc.org)

Welcome Magazine - Hong Kong BN(O) primary school children

Welcome Magazine

We have received a request to share the following message on behalf of the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities, regarding a resource for BN(O) children and ask you to share it, as appropriate:

Funded by the VCSE grant, UKHK has produced a Welcome Magazine - a free resource which is available to schools and organizations who might be interested in helping children newly arrived from Hong Kong to integrate into school and the UK. The Welcome Magazine is a gift for incoming children from Hong Kong under the BN(O) visa scheme at primary school age, and a bilingual resource to help them feel welcome and learn more about British culture. It includes fun facts about life in the UK and signposts to local services and groups to further assist the child’s integration. Copies of the magazine can be posted to schools free of charge - make your request using this form.

2022-23 Schools Term Dates, 5 Professional Development Days and School Start/Finish Times – Annual Cambridgeshire Survey

Please let us know the dates your school has scheduled the 5 teacher training/professional days that are available to be taken at schools’ discretion during Academic Year 2022/23. We request this information from schools annually so that Cambridgeshire Services can plan support and provision for schools, pupils, parents, and carers accordingly. Please also let us know your school start/finish times for September 2022. This information is requested in response to the recent government white paper - Opportunity for all: strong schools with great teachers for your child, that sets an expectation for all state-funded mainstream schools to deliver a minimum length of school week of 32.5 hours as soon as they can, and from September 2023 at the latest. Please send us the dates and times for your school by completion of the following online survey by 5PM Friday 27th May 2022.

Have you employed an early career teacher (ECT) who will start or continue induction in September 2022?

ECTs cannot start their induction until they have been registered with the ECT Induction Service (acting as Appropriate Body). Please find here details of the statutory service we provide.

ECTs cannot start statutory induction until they have been registered with the ECT Induction Service (acting as Appropriate Body). Please find here details of the statutory service we provide. If you have employed an ECT who will be moving schools and will be completing year 2 of induction from September 2022 you will also need to ensure they are registered with the ECT Induction Service.

Statutory ECT induction is now a two year process and as well as registering ECTs with an Appropriate Body, schools must also ensure that ECTs are accessing an Early Career Framework professional development programme. Please read our updated FAQs for further details of the changes to the ECT induction process, the options for delivering an Early Career Framework professional development programme and the steps needed to register a new ECT. We welcome all ECT registrations, regardless of the Early Career Framework PD programme the school has chosen.

The ECT Induction Service is running update briefings via zoom for Headteachers and Induction Leads in June. These briefings are free of charge for all schools with current ECTs registered with us or schools who will have an ECT registered with us in September. Places can be booked here.

Brand new Induction Tutors and Induction Leads should attend the half day course ‘Essential training for new Induction Tutors/Leads’. This course is free of charge for all schools with current ECTs registered with us or who will have ECTs registered with the ECT Induction Service in September. Further details and available dates can be found here.

Incoming ECTs who are starting induction in September 2022 are warmly invited to an ECT Welcome Event on July 15th. Venue: Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. You can find further information and book places for your ECT here.
