Scammers using Legitimate trade finder sites.

Cambs Police are looking into reports of local people using an App available on both Apple and Google Play stores.

The app allows people to advertise a range of services such as trades including; plumbing, electrician, building etc.

The victims are seeking and contacting person/s on these types of app, and they are then being asked to pay in advance of any service being provided.

No services are provided even after the money is paid.

Key messaging would be that although the Apps are genuine, they are being exploited by people offering products and services they probably have no intention of fulfilling.

People should consider NOT to pay in advance of any service until the work has been completed and they are satisfied.

For residents of Peterborough and Cambridgeshire there is a CAPASP Partner who runs a site called Safe Local trades.  Have a look at this website Safe Local Trades | Find recommended and approved traders in Peterborough and surrounding areas for more options when looking for quotes.

It is normal for genuine trades people to quote, and then invoice once the job is complete, they will not ask for money up front.

If the worst happens and you realise you have ben scammed then you can report to Action fraud or call the Police on 101.
