Here is a scam text message that one of our supporters received recently which we'd like to share.

scam text message - pretending to be Lloyds Bank

This text message pretends to be from Lloyds Bank, but the link "secure-verify-new-payment.com" bears no resemblance to Lloyds.

The use of capital letters is effective at grabbing your attention and increasing alarm.

Scammers often pretend to have your interests at heart, as here: "If this was NOT you, please visit this link...". Of course, all they want to do is steal your money and personal information.

Forward smishing messages like this to 7726.

Another of our supporters has shared this phishing email.

Scam email message - pretending to be BT

The phishing email is supposedly from BT, although the sender's address ends with @talk21.com, nothing to do with BT.

It cleverly uses some of the formal language that you'd typically see in a genuine email from BT if you happened to be one of its customers, but, overall, the messaging is confused and just doesn't sound right.

There's lots of opportunities to click on links here, all to be avoided!

Forward phishing emails like this to: report@phishing.gov.uk.
