Dear Reader,

Accreditation success for SEND Services

In amongst all the doom and gloom, the SEND Services have just secured approval to deliver the Dyslexia level 5 and level 7 diplomas as part of their work as a recognised qualification centre.

This offer will have a real impact in terms of staff training and knowledge that school based colleagues will be able to apply directly with many pupils at SEN Support across the school age range.

Dr Rebecca Doyle, Lead Teacher for Strategic SEND Support said: “I am really pleased to get to this stage and we will be progressing this offer later this academic year to schools. It is an intensive and long course and will make high demands on participants, but they are as rigorous as those from any other open market providers and carry the same nationally accepted credit, approvals and quality standards as others available.

“Having skilled staff in schools to this high level is going to have impact wider than just those pupils at SEN Support. It potentially can help us in reducing some court cases as we can evidence support that can be in place, and also demonstrate that there is accessible specialist teaching for pupils with literacy difficulties and dyslexia within our mainstream schools, possibly reducing the need for specialist placements.

“Another nationally recognised quality training offer for our schools is such a positive, and great to have to add to our core portfolio.  This is really positive news to celebrate in amongst everything else at the moment.”

Dr Rebecca Doyle

Lead Teacher for Strategic SEND Support

Cambridge University and Cambridgeshire County Council Climate Survey

Please share the following from Cambridge University Science and Policy Exchange (CUSPE) with you Year 11 to 13 pupils:

We are a group of early-career researchers working on climate change policy in the County. We would like to distribute our survey to people aged between 16 and 24. This is a really great opportunity for young people to share their viewpoints on climate change and help shape future work by the council.

The link to the 5 minute survey is:

https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/6YVBH26

The survey will be open until Monday 14th December.

The results from the survey will be included in a report and help shape our policy recommendation for the council on how to better engage with young people to tackle the climate emergency. The report will be publically available via the Cambridgeshire Insight website, the council’s platform for open data, when complete.

Recognition of overseas teaching qualifications from 1 January 2021

The UK has left the EU. There will be changes to arrangements for recognising overseas teaching qualifications from 1 January 2021. Teachers who qualified in the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland, will still

be able to apply for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), in England, but the process is changing. From 1 January 2021, teachers who qualified in any of these countries applying for QTS will be asked to provide a Letter of Professional Standing. This will need to be from the organisation responsible for regulating teachers in the country in which they qualified and will allow us to validate their qualification. There is more information about changes to arrangements for applying for QTS available on the UK transition page.
