Learn Together  |  Cambridgeshire County Council

Dear Reader,

Meet the Team - Education Finance

Especially in the current circumstances we are here to deliver support to Headteachers and finance staff to enable them to meet their financial responsibilities, understand school funding and plan for future years.

The team currently consists of four School Financial Advisers, with an additional new adviser joining the team this month, between them they have a wealth of experience in all aspects of school funding, budgeting and financial monitoring. As a resource they are here for school to make as much use of as they need.

For more information or support feel free to contact Ray Byford or visit the Schools Finance pages on the Learn Together website here.

`Read it Again!' Picture Book Award winner announced

Milo picture book

Cambridgeshire Libraries is delighted to announce that the winner of the 2020 Read It Again! Children’s Picture Book Award is …………….. ‘Milo and Monty’ by Roxana de Rond (published by Child’s Play).

Many thanks to all the schools that took part this year, in spite of the disruption of Covid. We received over 1700 votes and the voting was very close this year.

Now in its 15th year, “Read it Again!” is an award for a first time-picture book where the words and pictures are the work of one individual. Taking part in the award is a great way for schools to introduce children to some of the best new picture books.  Many teachers regard it as one of the literacy highlights in their teaching year.

Thanks to Peters, schools were able to buy discounted sets of the shortlist to take part in the award.

For further information and to see the full shortlist, click here.

All of the titles, as well as previous winners, are available to borrow from Cambridgeshire Libraries.

Adult Mental Health and Wellbeing

We all have mental health. There is no health without mental health.

In this regular feature, some ideas to support and signpost will be shared in the hope that you may benefit or you may be able to help others.

Support

www.actionforhappiness.org produce wonderful free resources to support wellbeing. They encapsulate the notion that it’s the small things which count; for example, by printing off and displaying their monthly calendars both at home and at work, you can be prompted to make small steps for self-care. Each of the 10 Keys to Happier Living will be explored over this series of articles.

Signposting

Alongside the EAP [Employee Assist Programme] which many schools and settings have, there are other organisations which provide help during a crisis.

2020 Launch of the Cambridgeshire Paid Teacher Internship

We are launching the next recruitment round for the Cambridgeshire Paid Teacher Internship.  It is a two-year programme that offers an employment based route to obtaining Qualified Teacher Status. It was created by Teachincambs a county council sponsored collaborative recruitment group in 2017.

Who is it for?

It was designed to run alongside other initial teacher training routes to provide your school with a career path for people with the potential to be a great teacher. It’s for people who would benefit from a more gradual approach and a paid route.

Experience has shown that this works particularly well for schools who want to develop their Teaching Assistants.

To find out if this approach would benefit your school please read the full information on our Learn Together webpage: www.cambslearntogether.co.uk/services-to-schools/cambridgeshire-paid-teacher-internship-programme

The Great Outdoors is Open!

With the current state of the world right now, it’s even more important to make sure our children get to play and learn outside.  The results are proven in that, children need fresh air, and they also need exercise.  With all the current restrictions in place, this isn’t necessarily happening for lots of children in the UK.

There are still many ways, we can make sure our children get to experience the great outdoors, whether this be with their parents during weekends, exploring forests and parks local to their area, or perhaps even walking the dog around their village or town.

It’s up to schools to help with this too, as some children only see the same 4 walls.

Grafham Water Centre is open, and excited to be receiving school groups for Day visits this Autumn and Winter term.  Grafham have held several school visits since September and these have all been run safely, and each individual has loved every second being out of the classroom and trying something different in what has been the most challenging year for our younger generation.

If you would like further information on visiting Grafham Water Centre with your class or Year group please contact Ali Baines, or telephone the office on 01480 810521, email, Alison.baines@cambridgeshire.gov.uk.
