Learn Together  |  Cambridgeshire County Council

Dear Reader,

It seems like yesterday that I took over from Tony Davies as Chair of Cambridgeshire Primary Heads (CPH), a hard act to follow. Since then there have been four Head Teacher meetings,  the last one being our biggest. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive; our aim at these events, together with Jon Lewis and his team, is to communicate important messages and to provide time for CPD, reflection and networking.

In response to the March feedback we have Adrian Buthune attending, who will talk about teacher wellbeing and its effect on the classroom.  Toni Bailey, the new Assistant Director for SEND, will share the results of the Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) review and the action plan for SEND, Jon Lewis will provide his usual update.

CPH is an important voice for Head Teachers, we represent your views. Recently we have been involved with The Funding issues and the potential movement of money to The High Needs Block. Thank you for the responses, these give our voice weight. We do not want to flood your inbox,  it is not always appropriate or practical to email Heads directly, so please link with your CPH representatives.

Thank you for your support, I look forward to seeing you in March.

Tracy Bryden

Chair, Cambridgeshire Primary Heads

New Date: Exclusions Peer Review 11th and 12th March 2020

Cambridgeshire will now be participating in an Exclusions Peer review on 11th and 12th March 2020 as the previous dates in December had to be rearranged due to the General Election.

Houghton Primary - NFL Flag Championship

Houghton NFL

Well done to the Houghton Bears American Football team who have been competing in the International NFL Flag Championship this week.  They won the UK championship last year and have been competing in a tournament in Orlando around other teams from across the globe.  In an heroic effort they narrowly lost in the semi-finals to the USA.

They finished their visit by attending the Pro-Bowl – an all-star game of the National Football League (NFL) with over 60,000 in attendance.

Well done to all the children who took part, their coach John and all the school staff who made this phenomenal achievement possible – Cambridgeshire is very proud of you!

Service Director, Education

Cambourne Village College Development

Cambourne development

The Education Capital Team has completed the handover of the expansion to Cambourne Village College this month.

The £8.2million project was to expand the 7 form of entry secondary school to a 9 form of entry secondary schoolto meet the demographic pressure within the existing population of Cambourne and the surrounding area.

Great Crested newts were discovered on the site requiring a licence from Natural England to progress construction.

A pre-constructed modular system was used to maintain the design programme and limit the construction time on site. The scheme consisted of new specialist classrooms, general classrooms, additional dining room space, staff area and ancillary spaces.  A number of external areas were fully landscaped providing additional school car parking and cycle and scooter shelters.

The work was undertaken by Kier with design by Frank Shaw Architects and Project Management was undertaken by Faithful and Gould.
