We will be launching our Picture Book Award ‘Read it Again!’ 2020, on Monday February 3rd.
This is a unique award for a first-time picture book by one single author/illustrator. Thousands of Cambridgeshire children in local schools will vote for their favourite book from a shortlist of six titles. Last year over 5,000 children took part in the award. Children will also have a chance to vote in our larger libraries over the Easter holidays. The winning title will be announced in May.
The 2020 shortlisted titles, chosen from a longlist of over 30, are:
- ‘Once Upon a Unicorn Horn’ by Beatrice Blue.
- ‘Milo and Monty’ by Roxana De Rond.
- ‘Big Cat’ by Emma Lazell
- ‘Our Favourite Day’ by Joowon Oh
- ‘One Fox: a counting thriller book’ by Kate Read
- ‘The Caveman next Door’ by Tom Tinn-Disbury
Copies of the shortlisted books will be available to borrow from libraries. You can find more information and all the previous winning titles here:
https://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/residents/libraries-leisure-culture/libraries/library-news/read-it-again
In preparation for the replacement of our public computers, there will be no public pc access in libraries on Thursday 13th February while we complete background work to the system. Public Wi fi will be operating as normal. We apologies for the inconvenience this may cause.
This month sees the launch of Reading Well for children collections in our libraries, coinciding with Children’s Mental Health Week.
These 33 specially chosen books are to help children understand their feelings and worries and cope with tough times. They have been chosen by children, carers, health experts and librarians.
You can find the collections in your local library from 3rd February.
There are also Reading Well booklists for young people and for adults to help you manage your health and wellbeing. To find out more visit www.reading-well.org.uk
