We all make New Year resolutions …..we’re offering you some simple choices to get you through January. We’ll post 5 ideas each week, all very simple, you can try one a week or all of them - it’s entirely up to you.

New Year - New Season of Arts Events!

The Library Presents’ new season of fantastic arts events happening in 24 libraries across Cambridgeshire begins on 22 February and runs through to 27 June. The programme will be available – and booking opens – later this month and we look forward to welcoming you at one of our events. There is something for everyone, whatever their age and interest, including dance, music, puppetry, magic, comedy and theatre. There is also a great variety of arts and craft workshops.

With more and more information and resources being online do you feel as if you’re missing out? Are you looking for ways to improve your digital skills?

If you're starting from scratch or would like to be able to do more we have just the thing for you.

Do you know someone who could use a bit of help to get online?

Learn My Way shows you how to use a computer, how to stay safe online, how to shop, do social media, search for jobs, plan finances and look after your health. It will even explain how to use public services online.

100 Novels that Shaped our World

2019 saw the 300th anniversary of the publication of Robinson Cruse and to celebrate the BBC launched of their list of 100 novels which shaped our world.

Each month, between January and October, 2020 has been allocated 10  books connected to a specific theme; January’s theme is Identity - what makes us who we are and how we define ourselves/others.

Check the library catalogue and borrow or download a copy of these interesting and diverse titles.

Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre is a classic example of defied convention. It presented a new voice, fully convinced of her defiance and standing up against adult tyranny.

Holocaust Memorial Day

Holocaust Memorial Day is the day for everyone to remember the millions of people murdered in the Holocaust, under Nazi Persecution, and in the genocides which followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur.

Cambridge Central Library will be remembering those who died in the Holocaust on the 27th January by displaying a selection of hand-picked, relevant books written by historians and survivors alike.

The books will be available from Friday 10th January.

Falls among older people are one of the biggest causes of serious injury. Everyone Health provides services to those who need it most to prevent injuries, improve confidence and help people maintain their independence.

Language Cafe

Come along to the Language Café at Wisbech Library 2:30pm - 4:30pm.

Free Sessions on the 2nd, 3rd & 4th Wednesday in January.

An informal, friendly language session at for those who would like to improve their English.

Language Café is a social, self-help group where you can chat in English, with help and guidance from a volunteer.

Baby Sensory Sessions at Huntingdon Library

Baby sensory is an entertaining, interactive and developmental session which will help your baby learn and develop important skills. It is also an opportunity to meet new parents, share ideas and experiences, make memories and have lots of fun with your baby.

Reading Group for Children @ Cambridge Central Library

This is a monthly reading group for children from 6-8 years in Cambridge Central Library. Please bring along the book you would like to chat about! We will finish off the session with a fun activity.

The group runs from 3-4pm but the monthly dates may vary. Please check with your local library for current dates.

Parents and carers please stay with your children during the meeting and activities.

Poetry Group at Wisbech Library

On the 3rd Tuesday of each month. A light-hearted poetry appreciation group open to all. Come along and bring your favourite poems to read aloud to the group, you can also bring your own work to share – or just come along to listen.

Reading Aloud with Cherry at Cambridge Central Library

On every second Thursday of the month come listen to a range of readings to help unwind and relax. Cherry will guide you through both poetry and prose from 11am to 12pm. Widen your knowledge of literature, meet like-minded people and join our friendly social group.

All are welcome to free this free, drop in reading. The event takes place on the 3rd floor of the central library.

Our popular Tea & Tablets returns to Wisbech Library on 16th January 2pm - 4pm.

Bring along your own laptop or Tablet to receive bespoke advice on how to perform useful functions – such as setting up your own email account and sending emails etc. This is a free service but we do ask for a small donation to cover the cost of tea, coffee and biscuits.
