Learn Together  |  Cambridgeshire County Council

Dear Reader,

Schools budget consultations

Thank you to all the schools that have engaged in the budget consultations we have been running across the county.  The presentation from the consultation event can be found here.   We have had a huge amount of questions from the sessions so far and we have prepared a frequently asked questions which can be accessed here.

The councils budget proposals can be found in the consultation paper and the funding modelling spreadsheet is here.   As we have covered in the session, the level of schools balances in Cambridgeshire can be found in the following -

  • Maintained balances can be found here (as at the 31st March 2019)
  • Academy balances can be found here (as at the 31st August 2018)

Responses need to be sent back to the LA via our electronic response form which can be found here.   Due to feedback from schools over the timing of governors meetings, we have extended the consultation until the 13th December at 5pm.

This is a difficult budget settlement for Cambridgeshire and we full appreciate the challenges we all face in making difficult decisions.  It is really important your voice is heard in this consultation.

All smiles at Fourfields School

Sue happy school

A school in Yaxley has been named as one of the happiest in Britain – for the second time.

Fourfields Community Primary School was highly commended in the Happiest School category at the Laughology National Happiness Awards on Friday 21 November. The school scooped the top spot in the awards in 2017.

Sue Blyth, Headteacher at Fourfields (pictured) said, “At Fourfields we place wellbeing, happiness and care at the centre of everything that we do. Our school motto is SHINE – which stands for Success, Happiness, Inspiration, Nurture and Excitement and this runs through everything we do at the school. “Fourfields is a truly happy school and I’m delighted that our commitment to wellbeing has been recognised for a second time.”

New Senior Leadership Adviser

I am very pleased to inform you that following recent interviews, the interview panel unanimously voted to appoint Diane Stygal (Leadership Adviser) to the role of Senior Adviser for Leadership. Diane will work with Chris Meddle this term and next to ensure that she is completely ready to fill the shoes of the Great One! Diane is full of ideas, passion and enthusiasm and we are pleased to have been able to appoint someone who already knows the demands of the role. There may be some Headteachers who do not know Diane. Chris is intending to introduce colleagues to Diane on his ‘farewell tour’ next term.

Any questions or concerns please contact Rosemarie Sadler.

PSHE Service staff update

Following important staff changes in the PSHE Service we were very sad to say goodbye to Diane Fenner (Development Manager), Annabel Talbot (PSHE Service Manager), Julie Gray (Life Education) and Carolyn Long (Business Support).  Their combined years of service are significant and we miss them and their expertise.  They have a very strong commitment to children’s health and wellbeing and have made an immense contribution to the team, schools, and the wider county council.

The PSHE Service is delighted to welcome Julia Hendron as our new Business Support Officer.  Following recent interviews, Steph Hoskin and Cathy Murphy have been appointed as Lead Advisers and we are pleased that they will be able to offer continuity of the highly regarded provision and in-depth knowledge of schools on which the reputation of the PSHE Service has been built.  The service will continue to support schools as they plan for statutory Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education, and Health Education in September 2020.
