Wisbech Adventure Playground

Our recent Halloween event was very successful with over 100 visitors. Families enjoyed slime manhunt, witches' broth, ghost hunt, fire pit, ghostbusters car and fancy dress competition fun.

Over 40 children and young people entered the fancy dress competition, all receiving sweets.

We have also hosted an international food event with inspiration from our young people's committee. The local church supported this and shared an Irish dish for families to try. Indian, Polish and Spanish dishes were also tried by some children for the first time.

We look forward to planning more events to share with families. More information here.

National Award for SEND Coordination

SENCo Award

The year-long postgraduate award is run annually in Cambridgeshire through the SEND Service and we were delighted to celebrate with some of our successful SENCOs from the last academic year in November when they received their well-earned certificates, pictured here.

Each participant has undertaken 600 hours of Masters level study over the past academic year, completing a range of practical tasks to support their theoretical teaching, and conducted a school specific research project.

Congratulations to all our participants who will now be able to use their learning to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND within their Cambridgeshire schools and settings.

Cambridgeshire Virtual School Conference celebrates carers

Virtual School conference

Cambridgeshire’s Virtual School facilitated a one day conference for carers of Cambridgeshire children in care on 15th October. The day was attended by over 90 people.  The aim of the day was to share the work of the Virtual School, to celebrate the very important role of carers and to promote ways in which carers can support education.  The highlight of the event was a presentation by Sir John Timpson (Pictured) who shared his experience as a carer of over 90 children in care and an adoptive parent.  Sir John Timpson continues to be active in this field through his charity work and published books helping all to understand about children in care and attachment and trauma. Sir John’s son, Edward Timpson CBE MP, played a fundamental role in the introduction of pupil premium plus, which supports our most vulnerable children today.

Best Start in Life workshop - change of venue

Last week we shared details for the Best Start in Life Focus Groups in taking place in Decenber and January. Please note that the session on 12 December in St Neots will be held in the Bluebell Activity Room at Eaton Socon Child and Family Centre as Bargroves is being used a polling station for the election on that date. All other workshop dates and venues are unchanged.

To book a place on one of the focus groups for other queries please contact Transformation.Team@cambridgeshire.gov.uk

Parish Council - your feedback is required

Cambridgeshire County Council declared a Climate Emergency in May 2019, and in response to this, the Council is developing a Climate Change and Environment Strategy and Action Plan. The Strategy outlines how we will: reduce the carbon footprint of the Council and the County; help our communities adapt to the change already happening; and enhance nature and the benefits it provides.

The consultation on the strategy begins on the 20th December and will end on the 31st January. The strategy and questionnaire will be available online and we will let you know details of the consultation website shortly. Should you wish a member of the project team to be present when the strategy is discussed at your next Council Meeting, please let us know and this can be arranged. Please email mlei@cambridgeshire.gov.uk with any requests or queries.
