Everyone has mental health. Staff in schools/settings deserve support and understanding with regards to their own mental health. Knowing how to support others [and oneself] when there are signs/symptoms of mental illness could be a useful and important skill. The focus of World MH Day is suicide prevention, an issue which has touched many people. Adult Mental Health First Aid courses can help as part of a practive well-being strategy. I am sad to inform you that Helen Manley (Senior Adviser for Curriculum Teaching and Leadership) has taken the decision to leave her post at the end of this half term. Helen has decided to return to teaching and has secured a new post at a school close to her home. We will all miss Helen for her great energy, enthusiasm, optimism and ‘can do’ attitude. Helen has been instrumental in setting up many successful and innovative schemes to improve recruitment and retention in Cambridgeshire. We know that all those who have worked with Helen will be very sad to see her go. We will be recruiting to this post in due course, but if you have any queries about Helen’s work or responsibilities please do contact Rosemarie Sadler (Head of Schools Intervention Service) or Emma Fuller, (Lead English and maths Adviser) who is line managing the team in the meantime.
A national accolade for quality has been awarded to Holme Church of England Primary Academy in Cambridgeshire for its work in improving the well-being, resilience and self-esteem of its pupils who may be vulnerable to underachievement.
The Quality Mark Award recognises the impressive work being done by the school to improve progress in reading, writing and maths for all pupils, particularly those with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities.
The award has been developed by leading education charity Achievement for All (AfA), a leading organisation that works in partnership with schools to improve outcomes for all children and young people vulnerable to underachievement regardless of background, challenge or need.
Holme has been working in partnership with Achievement for All since 2017.

A competition has just been launched inviting young people to create art inspired by our ambition to make special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) everbody’s business.
We are calling for paintings, drawings and other artworks that bring 10 words and phrases such as celebrate success and be positive that make up our SEND Pledge to life.

Cambridgeshire Early Years and Childcare Service are recruiting EYFS Moderators for 2020.

October Half Term is approaching fast and ‘The Library Presents’ has a great variety of top quality theatre, music, dance, art and heritage events happening across the whole county for families; events are taking place September - December.
Tickets are selling fast for puppetry show ‘Rumpelstiltskin and the Snail of Destiny’ by Theatre of Widdershins, there are still some for St Neots Library on Sunday 27 October. Other performances for families include interactive music with ‘Shake Rattle and Roll’, magic with ‘Devious Minds’ and circus with ‘The Flying Bazazi Brothers’.
There are lots of creative workshops run by professional artists including mosaics, art and science workshops, where participants use smart textiles and electrical circuits to make their works of art and lantern making. Enjoy finding out about Knights and try on some armour at Littleport Library with the Fitzwilliam Museum on Tuesday 22 October.
There is also a FREE dance event ‘Moon’ in Ely Market Square on Wednesday 23 October at 12 noon and 2.15 pm.
