The limit on your library account is changing on Monday 28th October (going from £14 to £10 for adults and £7 to £5 for children). If you reach this limit you will not be able to use your card to borrow any more books.

Meet crime author William Shaw

Author of the Breen and Tozer series and the Alex Cupidi books, William has been nominated for the CWA Historical Dagger and the Theakstons Crime Novel of the Year.

He will talk about how the books are written, the landscape and his characters.

Your new What’s On in Cambridgeshire Libraries brochure will be in a library near you this month covering all our library events taking place October-December 2019. Fantastic launch weekend for The Library Presents

The Library Presents season kicked off on 21 September with a magical puppet show ‘Rumpelstiltskin and the Snail of Destiny’ (pictured) and a completely sold-out evening of Jazz music by Paul Higgs and his band. Both shows are happening again in October!

BBC Virtual Reality Experience Returns

Libraries Week 2019 has a digital theme – and to celebrate we have the return of the BBC VR experience.

Book a slot at: Cambridge Central Library on Monday 7th October, St. Neots Library on Wednesday 9th October or Ely Library on Friday 11th October.

You can experience a flight in a Lancaster on a Pathfinder mission, you could choose to travel in the Tardis with the Doctor, or sit in a rain forest surrounded by gorillas…..

We had amazing comments from everyone who tried VR with us earlier this year – don’t miss this last chance.

Space Chase Award Ceremonies

Many congratulations to all the children who completed ‘Space Chase’, our Summer Reading Challenge, and were awarded medals and certificates at the special ceremonies we held across the county.

Just under 7,000 Cambridgeshire children took part in the challenge and we have given out over 3,500 medals and certificates, which is brilliant!

Look out for the Winter Mini Reading Challenge, which will start in December, and encourage children to snuggle down with a book. They will unlock rewards as they read and there will also be fun activities, quizzes and reading recommendations on the website. We’ll give you all the details nearer the time.

World Mental Health Day

There is strong evidence that reading can improve our health and wellbeing. While the annual World Mental Health Day is taking place on the 10th October, we would like to remind you about the Library’s Reading Well book collections which can help us look after our mental health. Code Club (Scratch and Python) is running until the 14th December! There is still time to book your spot in the club.

Aged 9-11 years? Would you like to learn to make your own computer games? At Code Club you can learn how to make cool games, animations and websites too! Interested? Ask at Cambridge Central Library for a registration form. Limited spaces available. Booking is essential. Children need to attend ALL dates.

The Clay Farm Centre 1st Anniversary

Between Saturday 19th October and Wednesday 23rd October we will be celebrating our first anniversary with a series of special events and activities.

Starting on Saturday 19th October we are having a community day that includes a free community lunch, bouncy castles, family friendly activities and demonstrations and taster sessions from our regular hirers.

On Monday 21st October we are having an active Rhyme Time for 0 – 5’s. On Tuesday 22nd October it’s eyes down for Bingo and a Cream Tea and on Wednesday 23rd October we will be showing the film Matilda.

Come along to Wiggle and Giggle at Whittlesey Library, we have just begun again after the summer break and it is a great opportunity for new members to join Bookstart Bear’s Club!

You can collect stamps in your Bear’s Passport and every six stamps are rewarded with a beautiful certificate with your name on it.

Our lovely volunteer Ginny can sign up new members at the Friday’s Wiggle and Giggle session.

Laura from St Neots Library visited 60 reception class pupils at The Roundhouse Primary School for a special Storytime reading of The Cave by Rob Hodgson.

A further 50 pupils from Great Staughton and Kimbolton Primary School will be visiting us at St Neots Library in November!

Dragon Patchers

The St Neots Library team took part in a competition to name the new Cambridgeshire County Council, pot hole mending, Dragon Patchers.

The name Al- Patchino was chosen out of 150 entrants and won 75% of the public vote.

To celebrate we have invited Al- Patchino to visit us at St Neots Library where he will be given an honorary Library Card.

We are always welcoming new members to join the Library, why not register for your own card today!
