Learn Together  |  Cambridgeshire County Council

Dear Reader,

Statutory Relationships Education (Primary), Relationships and Sex Education (Secondary), and Health Education will come into effect in September 2020, with the DfE encouraging schools to start implementation during the academic year 2019/2020. The PSHE Service’s resources, including the comprehensive Primary Personal Development Programme (available as part of the annual wellbeing subscription) provide all that schools need to meet the requirements. For more information, please contact pshe@cambridgeshire.gov.uk. We are also running a conference on Wednesday 9 October with Lucy Emmerson from the Sex Education Forum as keynote speaker, and practical workshops. Please see our Learn Together page here.

Teachincambs training session feedback

Teachincambs Logo

The updated Teachincambs website training sessions went well last week. Attendees all left feeling they understood the system, many commenting that it was really easy to use. My thanks to all those who attended for their feedback and suggestions which I will be investigating soon. Please do keep in touch if you have any questions about the site or its content.

Lynne Birch, Schools Engagement Adviser.

Critical and Major Incident Guidance

Last week all schools were emailed the updated Local Authority Critical and Major Incident Guidance, together with a covering letter. It was sent as a PDF and as a Word Document. Some schools and academies have reported that the Word attachment was deleted or quarantined. It would appear that some of the language associated with critical incidents is picked up by email monitoring systems. If you having difficulty accessing the Word version please contact me directly and we will try to get it to you. Hopefully you will find the guidance helpful in updating or reviewing your current plans and the Word document templates which you can download and adapt may be helpful to you.

New EEF Guide: Strengthen the link between the Pupil Premium and teaching

This report - available to read and download here - recommends a tiered approach to spending the Pupil Premium.

Crucially, we want to strengthen the ways it is used to recruit, retain, and develop great teachers for all children. Targeted support for struggling pupils should also be a key component; as well as strategies that relate to important non-academic factors, such as improving attendance, behaviour, and social and emotional support.

Engagement model EOI

Last autumn, DfE announced that a new statutory assessment will be introduced in the 2020/21 academic year to assess pupils working below the standard of the national curriculum and not engaged in subject-specific study at the end of key stages 1 and 2. The engagement model will replace P scales 1 to 4 and is based on the ‘7 aspects of engagement’ model.

To support the implementation of the engagement model, the DfE have committed to producing a detailed guidance and training package for schools to be delivered through a cascade, ’train the trainers’ approach. More information will be available once the development of the package is under way.

KS1 and Phonics Data Collection

Please remember that the KS1 and Phonics data needs to be submitted to the LA by Thursday 27 June. Please make sure that any leavers are included in your file for KS1. The Phonics Threshold will be made available on Monday 24 June.  Please note that pupils who did not reach the required standard of phonics in Year 1 must retake in Year 2.

The file produced from your MIS system should be in CTF Format. The file should be uploaded to the S2S website by selecting  ‘Upload CTF File’. The file should be named:

873XXXX_KS1_873LLLL_NNN.xml or 873XXXX_PHO_873LLLL_NNN.xml (where XXXX is your schools DfE number and NNN is the file number).

Any problems, please contact Maria Clough on 01480 379869.
