Did your children enjoy Mischief Makers? Why not try the Winter Mini Challenge  based on the book ‘There’s a yeti in the playground’?

Starting on Saturday 1 December and finishing on Friday 11 January, the challenge will be run through the Winter Mini Challenge website. Children simply read three books of their choice, add them to their WMC website profile and leave a short book review. New BFI Archive website

BFI

Cambridge Central Library hosted a unique opportunity to help test the British Film Institute's new Film Archive website last Monday (29th October). The Film Archive website has been created to give the public free access to BFI's collection of films about British life made over the past 120 years. Nine members of the public and library staff joined Sarah Grant, Digital Project Manager for the BFI, to look at the website, see how the Archive works and give, direct feedback about how useful and user-friendly it was.

Once the consultation period is over, we hope to see the service rolled out to all libraries, possibly as early as the New Year.

Operation Lighthouse for White Ribbon Day

White Ribbon

White Ribbon Day is on 25 November - the UN Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Organised by White Ribbon UK, this is a day to encourage everyone to take a stand to end male violence against women, once and for all.

On this occasion, Cambridge Central, Cambourne, Ely, Huntingdon, March, St Ives, St Neots and Wisbech libraries will have White Ribbon displays and present Operation Lighthouse, a powerful book written by two brothers – Luke and Ryan Hart, whose mother and sister were killed by their father after suffering years of abuse.

Free copies of Operation Lighthouse will also be available to take home from every library so don’t hesitate to ask staff about the campaign and the book.

To learn more about White Ribbon, visit https://www.whiteribbon.org.uk/

This means you can access thousands more library titles than ever before!  Anyone who is a member of a SPINE library can now borrow items from any of the three library services for free and return library loans to any Cambridgeshire, Peterborough or Suffolk library.

You can also search the combined online catalogue, showing all available fiction and non-fiction books, spoken word, music CDs and DVDs. Stock can be requested from other library services for a fee of £2 per item, to help cover the cost of transporting the item to your local library.

Browse the catalogue here. For any frequently asked questions about the shared catalogue, head to our website or speak to a member of staff.
